The city has screwed up again. Can't get it together to get a few airplanes to land there:

I've read and reread the article, but don't see where the City screwed up.

This is definately not a city screw up. If the FAA process takes a month or more, and it's only been 2 weeks, I dont think the city is to blame at all.

The city said that they would be ready to resume air service July 31st. They should know that it takes a month for all the proper paperwork and also have the correct signage in place to meet the requirements of the paperwork.

As someone who does project management, I understand that there are unknown things that come up. But this is unacceptable and should have been seen from a mile away.

"Destination One, a Cleveland-based charter company, announced the new service just two weeks ago, which was not enough time for the airport to complete the FAA approval process.

Delbert Brown, director of Detroit City Airport, said the city was attempting to complete what is normally a one-month process with the FAA in two weeks. He said the airport's 12-member staff is properly trained, and maintenance work is nearly finished, except for a few "small problems with signage out on the field." A draft manual has gone through its initial review by inspectors.

"If we would have been able to complete it in that timeframe, it would have been an unprecedented feat," Brown said."

After reading the article, it does not seem far fetched for the city to have completed everything in 2 weeks, but its more of a last minute call on both ends, not just the city.

I'd fell safer landing in Beruit International Airport than City Airport.

You'd like to be sure that he fell (out of the plane) safer?

I'll chip in for the ticket, as long as it's one way.

I fly out of City Airport at least once a month.

There is nothing better. Period.

What is better and safer than having a control tower that is 100% dedicated to your plane?

It seems that both the city and the charter airline are at fault. Don't announce something to great fanfare any then screw it up when it counts the most: the first day.

I thought that the airport has been renamed and is now "Coleman A. Young Municipal Airport." Isn't it rude to Young's memory keep using the old name?

No worse than going to the City-County Building, driving down 12th Street or 6 Mile Road, or going across the Belle Isle Bridge?

I wouldn't be too hard on the city perhaps other than for not managing expectations. The operation of a commercial airport is a complicated and sophsisticated task and this seems like a modest delay.
