Thought yall would like to see the progress they're making on Cadillac Square. A construction worker told me about a month ago they hoped to be done with it by mid July. It seems like an August finish is more likely, if not a little later. |

Hmmmnnn... The concrete footings in the photo don't seem to correspond to that conceptual drawing. |

Looks good. Has the fountain been taken from Palmer Park yet? Can't wait to sit on the lawn and read a book. 313 |

Isn't one of the old downtown fountains.....not sure which one, going to be incorporated into the plan? And was this not decided after those conceptual drawings? |

The Bagley Fountain, formerly in Campus Martius will be relocated to Cadillac Square. The Merrill Fountain, also formerly in Campus Martius, was moved many decades to Palmer Park. There are no "known" plans to relocate it back downtown, although it would be great if they did. I mentioned that idea on another thread. |

In the sense that the park is a rectangle, yes, it gives you the general idea : ) |

Also posted (by me) on another thread: The Bagley Fountain was originally on the point where the old Woodward and Monroe streets intersected before the current Campus Martius "roundabout" scheme. I think this is (will be) Detroit's only example of architect H. H. Richardson's work. Erected in 1887, the fountain was Gov. John Judson Bagley's gift to the city. Richardson designed the fountain base so that ice could be packed around the pipes to provide water "cold and pure as the coldest mountain stream," just as its donor wished. Pam earlier posted this link regarding the fountain: http://www.detroithistorical.o rg/collections/vewebsite2/exhi bit3/e30002b.htm |

E hemingway, the footings look like they match up pretty well with the link posted by Sharmal. In the link Cadillac Square is on the right hand side, slightly shaded. The full color park in the center is Campus Martius. |

What role will Cadillac Square Park play downtown? Will there be events there like those in Campus Martius Park or will it be the opposite of CMP, a "quiet" oasis? |

It is meant to be a more "quiet oasis" but will be a continuation of CMP. It will be mostly picnc area like part of CMP is, and will have the fountain and they talked about another Cafe at one point too. |

Does anyone know why the construction workers are digging on Woodward between Larned and Congress by CMP? I just pass that area early and I saw mini dozers on that area besides Cadillac Square. |

Nellonfury - The landscape in the blvd btwn Campus Martius and Jefferson was torn up due to construction on Woodward. I think the activity you are seeing is related to tree planting and landscaping of the blvd. |

Does anyone know anything about the 139 Cadillac Square building (the corner of Randloph and Cadillac Square)? I know at one time it was supposed to be redeveloped, but that fell through. Any reason why?? |

One of the partners got stabbed leaving the building shortly after they had a gathering there to celebrate their purchase and to show off the building to friends. That soured the rest of the peoples' enthusiam. |

Balcony cam strikes again. They do sporadic work on that building. There are usually lights on a couple of floors during the night and it seems like someone is working away in there. They put cell phone receptors on the roof just before Super Bowl. The ground floor has had for lease signs in it forever, although they just switched the agent sign on it a few weeks ago. That building just screams Vinton project potential. |

The people doing the Vinton building looked at that building before the Vinton came up for RFP. The building was purchased by the current owners before the People doing the Vinton building could get a hold of it. Rumor has it it's back on the market. |

Elaborate plantings are going in the median - it will look like the Jefferson median from Ren Cen to Hart Plaza when Torre & Bruglio are done. This company does a fantastic job all around the city: Grand Circus, Washington Blvd., Campus Martius and now this new median display. Beautiful! |

I am glad to see that Detroit is taking care to install attractive landscaping downtown. When I was there last, I recall ratty grass and weed medians and the occasional huge, cracked concrete planter with struggling wads of petunias in them. Nevermind all of the Chee-to's and grocery bags blowing around. Detroit tumbleweeds. It thrills me to see the pictures of Woodward, Washington, CMP, Broadway, etc. I never thought I'd see downtown looking that good! |

Ask and ye shall receive. Balcony cam strikes again. They have been making a lot of visible progress lately, such as laying concrete, asphalt, tiles. At the rate they're going, I'm guessing they could be done by September. |

Moving the rink to the new park would not be a good, or safe move. The space is not wide enough, and would put the boards right up to the edge of the roadway creating many safety hazards for both skaters and drivers. Also, it would take away the ability to walk around the rink. (Message edited by detroitstar on August 15, 2006) |

i agree...which is why I think it would be a bad idea, just something I heard from a forumer in passing. Either way you will still have useable parkspace as well as rink. Besides, where would they put the warming tent and why would they put it so far from the cafe? it doesnt make sense |
