When Kirk Kerkorian and Jim York came to GM earlier this year, they came with plenty of ideas and much expectation. Months later, now that York's advice has been heeded, and GM MAY be at a turning point, Kerkorian is recommending the same type of business deal he suggested at Chrysler that helped Daimler-Benz essentially take control of that company. If there was ever a good time to rally around one of OUR companies (esp. one that despite it's own financial troubles has poured millions into Detroit's downtown lately) this would be it.

I don't know if Kerkorian could help Chrysler, but the current series of TV ads featuring Dieter Zetsche certainly are not.

They have to be about the dumbest ad clips I have ever seen on TV, and Herr Doktor makes himself look like a total idiot in them.

Oh, well. Machs nicht.

Dieter Zetsche is no Lee Iacocca. He makes Iacocca (in those ads Chrysler had back in the 80s) look like Laurence Olivier.

Ray1936 actually those ads have been a huge success for DCX so far. They now have a 1 day backlog due to the amount of Emails coming through. Of those only a handful are negative (somewhere less that 50 out of thousands).

I think the commericals are great...it's about time they put a face to DaimlerChrysler.

I say the DCX commercials are a good thing.
They put the "Global" thing (here to stay) right up front and in our face.

The timing is good for GM to follow if they go that way.

Sorry, I repeat; they are the stupidest ads I've seen in a long time. If they are increasing sales for Chrysler, it merely demonstrates the intelligence of the average American once again. Sigh.

Not only are they stupid Ray, but they lose any possible effect when I have to see the damn thing 50 times during each Tiger broadcast. How frickin' lame ! I never knew I could change the station so fast.

Which are worse ... the Chrysler ads or the VW ads with the bad guy from Fargo playing a near as I can tell a cross between a bad guy from Die Hard and a middle aged wigga ...?

anyone think Dr. Z kind of looks like he could be David Cross' dad. Look at the huge pic of him on the Chrysler building in AH

I love Dr. Zetsche and will hurt anyone who talks bad about him.

GM-Renault is a stupid idea. GM is really hurting for those 3 extra brands isn't it? But on the bright side, a merger with Nissan would eliminate their need for a Nashville headquarters. The new motorcity my ass.

So I realize swift decisions aren't exactly Wagoner's forte but I'd have to see a quick "NO!" on this one.

We win some and lose some

We Lose -- GM, FORD and Chrysler

We Win -- DARTA, SMART, DDOT

On August 8, 2006 many will vote to renew the SMART property tax.

See how much the car companies will give to help save SMART

See how many made in the USA products you will buy

Imagine, there is NO money from the Michigan Department of Transportation MDOT to help pay for SMART

It's easy if you try.

I have to agree with Ray. The DCX ads are attrocious and show exactly how much of a self-serving asshole "Dr. Z." is. Oh and BTW, to answer the question posed in one of the t.v. spots, "are you really a doctor?" The answer is no, he is NOT. In Germany if you have your Masters degree you gain the title "Doctor". Here in the U.S. you simply have a master's.

Who cares if he's a "Docter" or not? Ads don't have to be not "atrocious" in order to be effective. Getting one's attention is over half the battle with mass advertising, and apparently it got the attention of a few, if only for them to complain...

I'm sure the Dr. Zetsche has never heard of the University you graduated from either. :P
