I love you guys...snif...snif..

We may not get 208 (or more) postings as in the "Daily Hate" thread, but we should try. It's healthier for everyone.

I'm sure enjoying the Downtown Cleanup actions. It is progressively getting cleaner and cleaner around here. Not bad, eh?

I love:
DIA and Detroit Historical Society
My family
Otto's Krispy Corn, Vernors, Kowalski
The Spirit of Detroit and the spirit of Detroit
The return smile I get from most Detroiters
Beautiful old memories that can NEVER be replaced though the sites may be gone
The hope for the future that seems to be bubbling up again
And the never-say-die attitude of this area
I'm sure I could make this list much longer but...

Livedog2 (what happened to 1?), you did me so much better but i was pressed for time to try to get out of the office before the storms hit.

ok, i also LOVE:
City chicken (that appears to be something of a Detroit rarity), Sanders cream puff sundaes with butter pecan and Sanders fudge, The Detroit Fire Department and their clowns who I'm still amazed are around, MIGHTY WHITIES (aka White Castles), the trolley that (used?) to run on Washington Blvd., MOTOWN!!! and almost all of its artists, the "bump" on Grand Blvd. that my Dad used to take at a speed to tickle my stomach as a kid, Jayne Field and Lasky, the fact that a skinny little white kid like me was accepted and even welcomed and loved in a very mixed neighborhood growing up (I wanted to be Mary Wilson when I grew up - obviously didnt make it - but Mrs. Booth across the street offered to sew my costumes), Eastern Market, fireworks, memories of Boblo, being lost in the RenCen in the early days, great old buildings that deserve new lives, and, most sincerely, the people on this site.

I lurked for quite a while before joining but you really are a great group of people who obviously care

I love sitting on the GM Promenade watching activity on the river and the riverwalk

I love watching all the tourists snapping pictures and talking about things downtown

I love how on a sunny day the towers cast shadows on the water

I love being able to say "That's Canada"

I love seeing more mixed crowds in the city

I love riding a few laps on the People Mover just to observe life or to chat with the security guard if one's on board

I love watching children play without worrying about cars - on the riverwalk, in the parks and plazas, in the fountains - yesterday I saw a dad holding his son's hand while the son checked out the DIA's waterfall

I love Campus Martius and the new Renissance Center riverwalk. I love Detroit summer days, all blue sky and fluffy white clouds and deep lush green Michigan. I love sharp-dressed Detroit men who will turn into a clown to make you smile.

Mikie! He likes it(sjeff)!

Ok, I don't like Life cereal but I do love life and I have to agree with Mikie that I do love itsjeff; I can always count one of his posts to give me a good laugh. Actually I love lottsa folks on this forum (even if I don't always agree with their point of view...haha) ;)

Other loves: My dogs, my boyfriend, schtupping my boyfriend :-), all the wonderful food choices to be found in Detroit and the suburbs(Mexican, BBQ, Vietnamese, Polish and on and on...I'm getting hungry!), Eastern Market, Detroit's architectural gems, my little house in Redford (even though it needs lottsa work), Michigan's 4 seasons.

I'd better stop now, otherwise the list will never end.

The crowd at last night's Tigers game. It was electric. This is the first time I have seen a CoPa crowd really into the game. Even more than Opening Day, which is mostly just a big party. The crowd was focused on every pitch. It was a playoff atmosphere. Seeing the crowd back up and stand up for Robertson and Zoooomaya when they got into tough spots was flat out AWESOME! If you haven't been to a game yet you have to go check one out.

Oh yeah...and stop by Cheili's new rooftop deck...very cool spot to drink and look at the City.

I was on that rooftop deck yesterday before the game. I loved the game. Except for the stupid girl that came and stood behind me on her cell phone. It went something like this....

"Kimmy, where are you at? Section 342? I'm over here standing next to a statue of some guy. He's hitting a ball. William something? Wilmer? Oh, Willie Horton. Hey everybody, I see Kimmy. She's standing up waving, OHMYGAWD! I thought you were going to come hang with us. I'm with John and Karly. Yeah, come down here and we'll hang out and not watch the game because I don't care about baseball and I'm just here because it is the cool thing that all us kids are doing these days."

Okay, I paraphrased the last sentence but jesus christ lady, don't you kids text message or something nowadays? Something that is quiet? Rant over, I had to inject something bad into this lovefest. I did love spending my two days off in Detroit and going to Monday's and Tuesday's games.

250,000 people jammed downtown's streets last night, and not all of them were tidy. So here's some love for the city employees who obviously worked all night taking down barricades and somehow removing tons of garbage. By the time I got here at 8:00 a.m., you would have never guessed what went on here just 9 hours earlier.

I love the music of Miles Davis and The Beatles. I love the Detroit Tigers (always, regardless of their record.) I love pasta. I love really good chili. Alfredo sauce. I love women who have a great walk. I love the smell of frankincense. Cinnamon, maple syrup... and chocolate, dear chocolate, I am a fiend for chocolate. And codeine, when available.

I love listening to long-time Detroiters tell stories about the old days, about the street characters in my neighborhood, the hooligans, the thieves, the junkies and the nutcases, and I love hearing stories about the people who stood up an fought for my neighborhood, stories about when my neighborhood was a lot better back in the 50s and 60s and stories about when it was a lot worse in the 80s and 90s.

I was savalging an old metal cabinet, mind you I'm 5'9" 130 lbs. So this cabinet is on a dolley and I'm struggling a little in front of my building.

Two complete strangers (two guys who had clearly had a few beers) told me to stop it and they carried the thing into the building. We then ran into my next apartment over neighbor, then he and one of the guys carried it into my apartment and put it where I asked.

I love half-drunken white guys who don't believe that chivalry is dead.

Thanks you guys, now I have this song running through my head:

I Love little baby ducks,
Old pickup trucks,
Slow movin' trains - and rain.
I Love little country streams,
Sleep without dreams,
Sunday school in May - and hay.
And I love you too.

I Love - leaves in the wind,
Pictures of my friends,
Birds of the world - and squirrels.
I Love - coffee in a cup,
Little fuzzy pups,
Bourbon in a glass - and grass
And I love you too.

I Love honest open smiles,
Kisses from a child,
Tomatoes on the vine - and onions.
I Love winners when they cry,
Losers when they try,
Music when it's good - and life.
And I love you too.

I love quarterbacks eating dirt

Fans who won’t quit
And those twins

And I love you, too

I love football on TV
Shots of Gina Lee
Hanging with my friends
And twins

I love burritos at four a.m.

i love the fact that i still almost cry every time I watch Stevie Y lift the cup & hear the roar of the crowd when i watch my 1997 Champs DVD...i love the fact that my fiance thought Detroit was a shithole when we came to the Wings game in January, and she wasn't able to say "See?!? I told you so!" to the fact we didn't get shot or mugged or stabbed or kidnapped (like she thought we would) when I drove us down to go to Hockeytown, parking in front of the Detroit Life Building...I love that I kinda knew my way around just from you people and this forum...I love the pictures I took of downtown from that trip...I love the fact that on that same trip I got to see the Book-Caddy, Grande Ballroom, Tiger Stadium, Fisher Bldg., Fort Shelby Hotel, MCS, etc etc etc in person instead of just in pics...

I love that I have discovered, in my short absence, that I have to work harder on loving the D because hey, I'm here now & that doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon.

I love the fact that we're so close to another country and we can zip merrily across the River and be in another country with its own unique culture and personality.

(maybe not the most high brow of ways to celebrate July 4th, but it does make one pause and look at the US in a different light)

Let's all ride the bus when we go to downtown Detroit instead of clogging up the freeways as possible.

This will help out both SMART and DDOT and free up more state and local money to improve mass transit

The freeways can then be used for the trucks without widening them more as fewer cars will be on them.

This is how other cities improved mass transit because it works. Go to Boston or Toronto for example and see the nice trains.

The answer to improve mass transit is for all of us to work together for the benefit of everyone.

Detroitteacher,

I LOVE signing loudly with GOOD music like Aretha and blasting out the current nasty, so-called, music. (I keep the windows open when I smoke so they get a lot of volume!)

I LOVE that Aretha still lives in the metro area unlike DIANE Ross who, years back, had a "homecoming concert" in Central Park.

I love Motown, The MC5, The Stooges, Alice Cooper, Parliament/Funkadellic, The Suicide Machines, Eminem, Tiles, and Grand Funk Railroad.

I love the old novelty trolly (now gone), and old pictures of the trolly and public railway systems. I love the old General Motors building on Grand Boulevard (now Cadillac Square), even if GM did dismantle our public transportation. I love the old Hudson's Building, and the Campus Martius venue. I love the Soldiers and Sailors monument, and the David Whitney houses. I love the Yamazaki buildings on Wayne State, and the old Detroit high schools from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

I love the Horseshoe Club, and hearing stories about how everyone from John Lee Hooker to Howlin' Wolf played there. I love the Lindel A.C., and how you could sometimes catch ancient hockey players there. You'd ask them about the Olympia, and they'd get misty eyed.

Above all else, I love The Guardian Building. It's the most enduring symbol of hope, that there just might be a way to rebuild this city. It cannot (and should not) be what it was, but there has to be something better.

I love how some people will hijack any thread for their own use.

My website is for all and is Love because only if we all work together can mass transit benefit our region for everyone.

We can have a great mass transit system and still love our cars.

It's up to all of us.

So, let's make it work with compassion.

One Aretha that you can't really belt out but I LOVE is "Do Right". "Take me to heart and I'll always love you and nobody can make me do wrong. Take me for granted, leaving love unshown, makes willpower weak and temptation strong..."

Also, though he's not quite Detroit, I love Bob Seger and he KEEPS it local. Hey! A2 is almost a suburb now.

I love the SMART buses and the nice bike racks that make me thinner then driving all the time.

So, on August 8, 2006 it does not matter to me when you all vote YES to renew the SMART property taxes.

Let's keep the buses rolling and move forward to help fill them all up at the fare-box.

Let's show Livonia the way to come back.

I love finding humor in even the silliest things. Kids are the best. Look at them when you are driving and they are all looking out the passenger windows of the other cars. Wave to them!

Looks like it's up to the non-posting-lurker community to keep the love thread going. :D (there are hundreds upon hundreds of us after-all)

I've been reading this forum for about two and a half years and I LOVE the sense of optimism and hope from everyone here (once you peel back a few layers of sarcasm).

I loved Audible_nectar's thread about the free Kayne West tickets at Pepsi Smash during Super Bowl week (lots of free tickets for myself and friends).

I loved Fishtoes2000's thread about Bicycling Magazine's BikeTown Detroit 2006. Even though I heard about it elsewhere as well, the DYes thread was the first time I saw it mentioned. So I decided to enter the contest and I was one of the 50 Metro Detroit winners of a new bicycle.

I love reading the threads from all you local bar-flys (you know who you are). Almost completely thanks to that I've gone from being "clueless" about downtown a few years ago to becoming a human "mapquest" when it comes to downtown bars/restaurants, and the unchallenged authority in that area with my still downtown-clueless circle of friends. ;D

I love the fact that, as a lifelong northwest-sider just south of 8-mile, I finally achieved the dream of moving to the midtown/downtown area when I started graduate school at Wayne State last August.

I love that the moment I started grad. school was the moment the new graduate dorms opened (where I currently live, at least for the next few weeks until I move into a midtown house in August).

The moment I started grad. school was also the start of my graduate program, Alternative Energy Technology, as an academic degree at WSU (and I really really love my academic program).

Well, that's a lot of love from me.

Keep it up, I'm sure the folks in the "Daily Hate" thread will get bored at some point and we can catch up.

I love Belle Isle. I loved going to the hydroplane races and thinking how beautiful the riverfront was loooking.

I love the way this city will never quit no matter how bad the odds.

I love the new Metro Airport and how Wayne County pulled off something truly impressive that makes a great impression on millions of people who pass through there on connecting flights. I love standing on the train platform inside Metro, packed with people from all over the world and imagining that one day platforms like this will be all over Metro Detroit.

I love all the possiblities that we have to make a truly great city.

I have friends from Paris visiting me here this week, a couple and their 9-year-old son. I know the father from work we've done together, and he decided to bring his wife and kid here for part of a six week North American vacation. They love it here! In the week they've been here, they have been to Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum, the Science Center (even though half the robots were broken), Belle Isle, Mexicantown and Corktown, Proud Lake for a picnic, while I write they are sailing on the Detroit River, and my young friend's very favorite, Corporate Amerika Park to see the Tigers kick Cleveland butt. He wears his rally hat full time now, and will recieve as a surprise his own Tiger hat and a mitt when they leave tomorrow.

We have eaten all over Detroit and Royal Oak and they loved every bite. Holiday Market got high marks. Their favorite was the Majestic Cafe, where the people were as kind as the food was good. My city looked great and everyone was nice as could be. Thank you Detroit! We might see a wave of friendly Frenchmen as a result of this week.

I forgot one. We were driving by the Fisher Building yesterday and my friend expressed an interest. We walked up and were met by friendly security guards who let us run around the lobby for an hour, inspecting and taking photos. They were so nice and it was clean and goregous and impressive.

We can watch the sun set in the reflection of the Ren Cen after, followed by a stroll through Grand Circus Park.
I can offer you my heart and a step- daughter!

OK, here's one story I love (just happened today). Picture this...my first trip to IKEA (don't bother, it's horribly crowded). In the parking lot was this guy who was shouting very loudly and very angrily. He kept yelling at some woman with kids saying "I don't sleep with this tramp" (pointing at the OTHER woman standing there). He kep yelling this over and over and was getting very worked up. The woman with kids was chasing the woman this guy was with (it was funny). The other woman was trying to get to her car. (The woman with the kids was considerably larger than the other woman). The other woman then ran back into IKEA. She was making a report with the door guy. Turns out that the shouting guy was her boyfriend. The woman with the kids was HIS wife. They both showed up at IKEA at the same time. The guy wasn't there with his wife. She caught him in the act. Lesson to be learned...always know where your wife and mistress are in case they may run into each other while you are out with the other.

I LOVE that the guy got caught.
