Has this intersection received any attention lately?
The Monkey Wards bldg. was suppoosed to come down and have new development started.
While we hear about grand plans for downtown, nothing seems to be reported about other parts of the city.
Anybody have any recent news on this project?

I work that way and drive by that intersection everyday. Nothing has happened other than some roadwork.

I'll be sad if the skywalk goes. It just added a touch of urban infrastructure to the city.

Many of the buildings are vacant or are moving out. Perhaps there is something in the works for that intersection. There is a Rite-Aid and Walgreens on the West corners. Strip mall type stores on the North East Corner and that empty Mamouth building on the South East corner. Where the old Cunninghams was there is a men's clothing store and they just got a new awning and such so I think they would be staying.

It's sad to see that intersection with boarded up buildings. It used to be a real economic hub for the area.
When that area makes a comeback, I'll believe that Detroit has arrived again.

I lived about a block from there (granted, I was 4) but I remember my mom taking me in my stroller of to Saunders and the drug store. I'd love to see that area back to the way it was when I was a kid. A Bingo hall or something is now where Saunders used to be.

It's barely boarded. It's not uncommon to see unattached boards on the place. I think Herb Strather's "deal" for the place has expired if it was ever alive to begin with. Since there wasn't a casino involved with the project Herb couldn't seem to find the cash to pull of the project.

That area had it all at one time. There was a Montgomery Wards, Federals Dept. store, Cunninghams and a Meyers Jewelery store on the corners.
They also had a Woolworths, Kreseges, Big Boy, Sanders, Crowleys. J.C Penny, A&P super market etc all within a few blocks from there to.
It was a small city in itself.
Now you have a strip area and a bunch of boarded up buildings.
