Why are the lights out in the city? Why do the citizens stand for it? It is darker in Detroit then it is in Romeo? |

City bureaucrats control city lighting in Detroit. That's why the system is totally and completely effed up. Eliminate the bureaucrats. Eliminate the problem. |

Are you kidding? There is no problem. According to the logic of some here, the lights situation in Detroit, like the crime situation in Detroit, is no different than it is in the suburbs. It's all simply erroneous perception that Detroit has a problem. Lights go out everywhere. |

The problem is typically in the underground portion of the system. It's expensive to fix, and the city has a lot of money right now... not. If the city can't afford to fix it right, they should unload the system to DTE or someone else who can - even if they have to pay someone to take it. <--- one really dangerous pro wrestler's opinion. |

Yeah, I was driving down E Jefferson last night and it was pretty eerie to have no lights on whatsoever. |

E. Jefferson between Alter and Conner was almost trecherous the night we had all that rain. Between the rain and no streetlights you couldn't see a damn thing. |

Private ownership of power companies is no silver bullet. Look at what California went through with Enron - only LA (who owns their power company) was unaffected. Here in Seattle, we've got public power, and we hardly ever have problems. Across Lake Washington, it's quite a different (and more expensive) story with Puget Sound Energy. Back in Iowa, my mom's power company got absorbed into something based out of st. louis, and she has to call there whenever the power goes out - which is frequently. Across the river in Omaha, where it's public power, my sister only has problems during weather disruptions. In othe words, be careful what you wish for. |

Maybe we want to pretend like we live in a township where the streets are dark all the time. Why are dark streets good enough for the suburbs, but us city folks can't have them? |
