Saw a sign in the window the other day, don't recall anybody mentioning it on here yet. There appears to be a sandwhich deli called Urban Deli to the former Cafe de Troit location.

I think they should consider calling the place "Extreme Urban Sandwich". The unnecessary use of the word "extreme" in any brand or business always gets the kids attention these days.

or "Urban Deli @ Library Street" @ seems way over used. Subdivisions, ballparks, malls/shopping centers. Give it a rest.

Good deal. If it's any good, the public will beat a path to the door. Hey, at one time, there was a handful of great Jewish Delis in downtown Detroit.

Maybe jjaba can get a c.b. on rye, half-sour pickles, and a Dr. Brown's Cel-ray Soda.

jjaba, enough with the Coney dogs already.

If anyone's curious as to what Cel-Ray soda is (I sure was) here's a brief description from Wikipedia:

Dr Brown's Cel-Ray soda is a soft drink with a celery flavor. It is fairly easy to find in New York City. Outside the New York City region, it is rather obscure but can sometimes be found at Jewish delicatessens and restaurants.

The flavor is reminiscent of ginger ale, but more pungent or peppery.

Hmmm ... sounds pretty good.

Cel-ray is pretty disgusting, it does taste like celery, not exactly the sense I'm looking for in a refreshing soft drink.

Now Dr. Browns Black Cherry on the other hand... now we're talking SODA!!!

Was it Urban Sandwhich? Whichever it was, I recall thinking "That's not the most appealing name."

Hey, get the Henie Youngman on rye bread, a cup of Matzoh Ball soup, and Dr. Brown's Cel-ray soda and you are in for a treat, my Goyisha friends.

But don't ask jjaba to eat chitterlings. But to some, that's a delicacy. And some of you love lukefisk. Oy veyesmere.

Don't knock it until you tried it.

jjaba.

Don't be dogging the Cel-ray soda! That's some good stuff. Good if you're in the mood for something not too sweet. You can get it at Zingerman's in Ann Arbor, and probably other places.

LOL @ "Extreme Urban Sandwich". Actually, that would be a great name in a way, obviously kind of a joke name. I guess it would get old fast, though. The "extreme" naming trend is pretty dorky, though... extreme snowboarding and all that.

In that "fine" building it is - "Urban Sandwich; look out for falling building parts, hope the landlord fixed the bathroom, check for liens on the property and have BS&E give it an occupancy permit before you open."

jjaba just had him a Jackie Mason, half pastrami, half-chopper liver on an onion roll, with a side of creamy cold slaw, and a cup of cold beet borscht with a dolop of sour cream. They threw in a few half-sour pickles and tomatoes. Oy, now that's a meal.

No Cel-ray, jjaba had a strawberry lemonade.

I was kind of hoping Urban Sandwich would have something to do with Urban Break. While I doubt that's the case, I guess it's a possiblity.

Great news from Dollardos.

Now that somebody else is in Cafe's spot, what's Cafe going to do? Can we still call her Cafe when she's not IN the cafe anymore? Does the naming rights go with the lease?

Jjaba,

Cafe left everything behind that that damn landlord deserved...much more than he appreciated.

She will forever be Cafe.

Plus, she gets royalties on every sandwich you name from now on that uses any version of the term on the label...

Not sure how old your picture is, but they were in there working on Friday and as you can see, there was some stuff (counters/displays) in the window.

Why don't they name it something suburban? It's sure to be successful if they do that. I suggest:

Sandwhich Creek
Sandwhich Knolls
Sandwhich Park
Urban Field Sandwhich
Urban Park
Urban Knolls
Urban Creek
Sandwhich Village
The Communities at Urban Sandwhich
