It appears the meter maggots have taken a page from the Homeland Security play book:

"...and he will deploy his 65 parking enforcement employees in a more effective way, which city officials say must remain secret."

I didn't know parking tickets were such a serious thing.

The city is trying to get money any way it can. When people owe millions of dollars in parking tickets I can't blame the city. I know I'm at fault of getting a ticket and just going "Well it's just a parking ticket.....What can they do?" And simply not paying it. (I also find it a little humerous when I see someone standing next to their car ,with a boot on the tire, and looking confused as hell)

Anyone know where I can get a boot for my car? I figure it's a good way to prevent it from being stolen.

Anybody remember the movie "The Super" with Joe Peschi? Forced to live in one of his tenemant buildings and on the first night they stripped everything off of his car except the alarm.. If they Really want your car, they're going to get it unless there's an easier target next to it.. THen they'll just take everything that's In the car, on it, around it....

$13,000??? That's just rubbing it in the city's face racking up those kind of fees. How elusive could one person be?

Forget boots on the cars. Knowing my neighbors, they would just let the car sit there for a few months being an eyesore to our hood. Tow that junk immediately.

Tow the top 100. Their cars are not needed on the streets. For that matter, tow any vehicle that is found to have min. $500 outstanding.

Funniest thing in the article is when they conclude that he is no longer driving.

What idiots they are for not immediatelly concluding that he IS driving, just even MORE illegally!

How hard is that to figure out?!

Ruffin, who has been Detroit's parking department director since 1994...

How the hell does somebody who is clearly so incompetent at collecting parking fines keep his job for 12 years.

And when he ultimately decides to do something about it, the News prints an article outlining how strict he is going to be.

He failed at his job as parking director for 12 years. Fire his ass.

My coworker is on the list. He dropped out of the top 10 and hopes to get this debt paid off within the next 10 years.

There is one way to avoid parking tickets and that is to take the bus downtown. Downtown Detroit is among the best served areas of southeast Michigan when it comes to public bus transportation. Next August 8, 2006 we have a choice, we can each have an extra $60 to pay for parking tickets and driving or we can pay this for SMART.

If you think our state will help pay for SMART, your wrong and the Livonia opt. out is proof of this. I'm sorry but I really do care and want to save SMART and want to see our area move forward in improving our mass transit systems.

yeah seriously, please stop... i see your user name and get angry.. i don't mean to be a jerk, actually it doesn't matter, im just saying stop advertising on every thread and EVERY post you put up..... sample post by trainman .

"It is unfortunate that the city of Detroit cannot cut the lawns of Belle Isle. Its our city jewel that needs to be preserved. If city officials didn't waste gas driving to sites, maybe that gas could be used to power up lawnmowers. This all can be achieved NOW by public transit.

Next August 8, 2006 we have a choice, we can each have uncut lawns where our children play or we can pay this for SMART. It is up to us to secure a mass transit system here in SE Michigan. Sign the petition on my website http://pleasestopadvertisingin allofyourposts.com
