The City Clownsil finally turned over the operation of Eastern Market to a non-profit organization.

Joanne Watson is really dense.

This is great news, this is a city asset that could not fall as a another CC screwup. Hopefully this will help Eastern Market become even better than it already is and a catalyst for growth in that area.

Yeah, I really don't see how anyone would want to keep spending $1M/year when you're only bringing in $700K/year.

I hope they dont change too much. Just do enhancements and updates where needed. Its an urban outdoor farmers market that my family has gone to for over 30 years. Dont make it Westborn.

It's the housing part that worries me. If they give the building to scumbags like the "good" folks at Crosswinds, it will be a damned shame.

Go to Eastern Market now before it gets yupped up beyond recognition.

Merchantgander...Good Stuff, only one addition: and we will just keep placing a higher tax burden on those tax payers dumb enough to remain behind.

Great, great news! Not that it was unexpected, but just great that it finally happened. And, can we quit when the insults (i.e. city clownsil) when they actually do something for the good of the city? Sheesh.

I glad that this is Detroit Treasure, has been save to another non-profit group. I also have to agree with Detroiternthemist, about keeping the current operationing conditions their same, and that they need to do some slight enhancements and upgrades to the current buildings.

I know that a lot of the folks on this thread are too young to remember it...but the term Yuppie is the antithesis of suburbanites....it stands for "Young Urban Professionals" and refers to the college and post college age folks that moved back into the cities to live the cool life...essentially the life so many on this board aspire to.

Might of been true years ago but in SEM yuppies are associated with the burbs. Mostly likely the meaning changed when the jobs and people left the city and moved to the burbs.

Let’s see:

Y = Young, I'm 33 so I would say yes

U = Urban, I live in the city

P = Professional, Does professional asshole count

If yes then I have attained it.

Back in the 80's, Yuppies were definitely not considered cool among hipsters. Remember "Die Yuppie Scum" stickers? A yuppie was someone who just cared about making as much money as possible and driving a Beemer. And in SE Mich they did live in the 'burbs only.
