at the the sidewalks of DPL. WTF? Me and my friends go to the the north lawn and hang out and play catch with the football on our lunch hour. We went there today and there are gates at each entrance. We walked over the little shrubs and 15 minutes later, as we suspected, a security gaurd came out and told us to leave! We weren't being loud just running around a little. Those lawns are huge and then they just blocked them off for apparently no ones use. the green space in midtown just decreased as far as I am concerned. |

As a side note, what's with the jail type fences on the lawn around the new YMCA along Farmer St? They look like crap. |

Those are there so the little kids in the day care don't go running into the street. It's better than chain link, i suppose. |

Helps keep the homeless off the lawns. They might eat the grass. |

It reminded me of Los Angeles when I saw it over the weekend. In LA, pretty much anything that resembles a civic front lawn is fenced off due to homeless people etc. I always thought the lawns of the Library and DIA were symbols of an open and accessible city. |

I don't mind the new gates, but they should be open during the day. I suppose they'd be closed after dark to keep out the homeless. Speaking of homeless, the Cathedral of St. Paul has seen a huge influx of homeless this summer. |

Well the gates were open today so my friends and I went to go play catch and sure enough about 30 minutes into it the security gaurd came out asking us to leave the yard. I asked if it was just us playing football that they didn't want or everyone, even, someone eating lunch, and sure enough he said no one is to be on the yard. |

So what's the whole thing with those black metal fences in general? They make whatever parking lot look like a prison. I don't see how they provide actual protection either, since the fences have openings for people and cars to go through. Real security fences with real gates protecting parking lots for an apartment building are one thing (and not a bad thing) but I don't get the other ones. |
