I often see people getting their wedding pictures taken on the river just behind the Joe Louis Arena. There is little park there with this large circular stepping sculpture that the wedding parties usually stand on. In the background you have the Detroit River with the Canadian Shoreline.

Also, Hart Plaza is a popular place, especially if the fountain is working. (I think its called Hart Plaza anyway)

Harmonie Park is very nice. A small fountain/waterfall thing and nice landscaping. I think that'd make for some good wedding photos.

And while you're there you could skip over to the Madion-Lenox and get a shot before they tear it down.

How about the fountain on Belle Isle? It's really beautiful and it would be a good idea to have your picture taken at.

Once I saw a whole wedding party having their pictures taken on the roof of the Detroit Athletic Club. I don't know if you need to be a member, but that would be amazing.

I always thought the conservatory at Belle Isle would be a nice place to do wedding pictures.

A funny side not: I got married at Greenfield Village, and our photographer rented an apartment to the Henry Ford Museum's automobile collection curator. He tried to get us access to the Kennedy limousine and some of the other cool historic cars for pictures, but to no avail...

My vote is Grand Circus park. It has such a cool citified spirit. Unfortunately daytime pics would be best because there aint much light in the bldgs.

Definately Belle Isle! You can take pictures in the Conservatory, the Gardens, by the fountain, with the city skyline in the background, and freighters cruising by. There are so many picturesque places on Belle Isle.

My second choice would be ZUG island.

We had some pictures taken around downtown and everyone's favorites that saw them were the Millenium Bell in Grand Circus and around the outside art at the DIA...

Don't you mean ZOG Island Sport? JK

I would also have to agree on the Scott Fountain it would be a wonderful place for Wedding pictures.

The DIA also sounds like a great place.

So many great ideas for wedding pictures I will keep them all in mind when i finally get married. =)

Either Belle Isle or the river front on the Windsor side. Both give a beautiful view of the Detroit skyline.

I've photographed weddings a few times as a photographer. I'd like to see the groom and bride kissing in front of the skyline. I have alot of ideas that I could put to use.

While not in Detroit proper, a friend had a wedding photo taken under the Kowalksi sausage on Holbrook. She used the photo as a postcard for the announcements.

My fiance and I did that a few months ago; not for announcements, just for fun.

...but that's not a bad idea.

How about in front of the SS Columbia? Or, better yet, go down to Toledo over Labor Day weekend and get some shots on the restored SS Ste. Claire.

If you can manage to get inside, the lobby of the Detroit Opera House is nothing less than magnificent. Just an idea in case it rains that day.

The Opera House Lobby is nice as is the lobby of Symphony Hall and Music Hall. I like the Fisher Building and the lobby of the theatre (that is where I proposed) and have seen a wedding party getting pictures taking in front of the DIA with the fountain on at night. We thought that was great.

Personally, I would get a shot up the road by the Majestic or in the Garden Bowl bar area. Beauty and grit.

In front of the Guardian Building, so the main entrance, is prominent or inside its lobby would be nice.

Belle Isle would be perfect. And you would either have to be a DAC or a member guest to get on the roof. Exceptions I'm sure are made if enough money is there. But if possible that is a great building and would make great backdrops.

I would like a shot with Tiger Stadium behind us. Or by the cab company building across from the stadium. Maybe a couple shots by the RenCen (hey I like it) or St. Aubin Park. I would get one with the Book-Cadillac as a prominent point.

But if you are getting married downtown why not get pictures in front of or inside of the places that you like regardless of aesthetics.
