I've been seeing campaign signs saying "Vote for the Black Slate" on them recently. There's one on the corner of Lodge and Livernois, and I've seen a couple of others here and there. Is this what I think it is? A call to boycott any non-black candidates for positions in Detroit government? Or is there a motive that I haven't hit upon yet?

Oops--answered my own question. Political arm of the Shrine of the Black Madonna. Nevermind.

Don't worry JDM they did not endorse your wife for CC. However, I sent an email to about 150 friends of mine with your wife on their as one of my picks! I met her at a MCPhail event and was very impressed! SARAH SNOW FOR CITY COUNCIL!

They are trying to tell the "unenlightened black folk" who to vote for so that they don't have to think for themselves. If they're the Black Slate, they must be good for Detroit, right?
They even hand them out at my polling location. I usually say, "What the hell would I want with that?"

No Bostedguy,

The Black slate or the so-called " vote straight" for is a bad ideal. It lures the majority voters by race away from political thinking and they not going to be able to vote for their own principles.

The Black Slate has been around for as long as I can remember...a pollster at the church where I vote put one in my hand before I could scurry in. Of course when I saw KK at the top of the slate I tore it up
