To Cub and the gang: You are all to be commended for the time and effort you are putting in to make your dream a reality. Dave and I have been keeping up via the board, and hope that we might be able to lend a hand sometime. We're rooting for you!!

Hi Cub and everyone else,

I really admire what you guys are doing, and really admire your willingness to put things into action to make a difference. Every time you make another step forward, I am sad I am unable to be there to help out. But I am thrilled that you are making such a big difference in your neighborhood! Keep up the good work.

You highlight where it says embed code and then on the blog paste it to the area tab that says html.

NeighborhoodStacey and I went to our Neighborhood association meeting tonight. She wants to start a historical committee within the association so we can find a marker or something to put us on the map like Osborn, EEV, Brightmoor ect. I need to find some info on Leesville which was the city that was our neighborhood before it was annexed in I believe was 1917. It was not an incorporated city and the city center was Harper (Butler) and Gratiot.

Mash, I dont see an embeded link anywhere.

Yes she is. I have known her practically my whole life.
We arent dreaming. We are serious. I want to be able to tell people the name of our marker. When I visit city council or the mayor I will be able to say what neighborhood I am representing and not I am from Harper and Gratiot area or down the street from the Better Made potato Chip Factory.

Chicago has a bunch of neighborhoods that are named after local areas of interest. Boysville, is very popular with the rainbowflag set, and I think the Goldcoast and Wigelyville are all named after area landmarks...

So, what I'm saying is ... you're name is right in front of you: ChipVille

NeighborhoodStacy can be the first Queen of ChipVille at the Chip Parade.

1876 map of Hamtramck Twp including Leesville

Don't know much about this site, but it looks like you can buy this map. Of interest, it appears that there is a farmer named P.Hunt who owned the land east of Gratiot. I imagine that explains the street name, Peter Hunt.

In google books, you can find some additional info on Leesville. Seems it was named after Charles Lee who came to Detroit from England in 1833; the area was know for brick making. That might explain some of those ancient bricks your brother Mojito and I found next to the pine tree.

wow, what a small world. I think he went there at the same time. He graduated from Kettering in 1966, which would have put him at Burroughs 59-62. His name is Merrill. Tall, thin, brown hair, blue eyes.

I'm really impressed with how this has all unfolded! I thought I read something about a Christmas event you are planning...but I looked through this thread and am not seeing it. Was I imagining that?

Tkierpiec: Yes...we are planning a holiday dinner for the neighborhood. We do not have a date yet, but will after this Sunday and we will be posting a request for volunteers at that time.

We are also planning a craft day where we will help the kids paint and decorate their own Christmas tree ornaments. Again, the date will be announced early next week.

Thanks for asking and we look forward to your assistance whenever and wherever you can.

Cub, you need to add Kilz paint to your list of needs and bleach. You may be able to find new tiles for the basement on Craigslist or Freecycle.

You have such a huge job ahead of you. I hope I can be there soon to help you.

Yeah, its not as bad as it looks Lol. But I will add that now. I had a dream the other night that the basement was all white with a gray floor. Yep I am obsessed with this project. The walls down there look like they haven't been painted in 100 years. One good thing is there is no sign of mold. I guess thats one good thing about the house being open.

Earlier on this thread you discussed naming your community. I think you were part of Leesville. On an archived thread Leeville was called Louisville in winter months. Naming a community does seem to bolster image. I suggest you think of names that include village in it ie Indian Village, Islandview Village and East English Village. You are reasonably close to Connor Creek which was originally called Tromblay Creek. Gratiot was an Indian trail and later became a military Road, than a Plank road. Two names come to mind, Indian Trail Village or my favorite Georgia Gardens Village. Just for fun, how about Bettermade Village.

In EEV, we had a vote on what to name our community, thank God we were spared the name Grosse Pointe View Village!

Congrats on your community center. You might want to hook up with an Eastside org. called Front Porch for ideas on kid resources, I think their website is frontporchdetroit.org.
