To all on the Board, you’ve probably seen my postings here on occasion.
I’m really in a jam, and I am actively seeking work because of yet another layoff.
I search the job boards daily, but the jobs in my trade are just about non-existent.

If you know of any leads, please forward them to my e-mail account.
Because of the rising price of gas, current finances, and my rural location, I’m looking for work in the Oxford-Lake Orion-Rochester-Romeo and Auburn Hills areas.

As well as recent machine tool building and wiring, I’ve done CNC operation, manual machining, welding, and assembly.

A portion of my resume follows:

Center for Professional Studies, Troy, MI
GM Unigraphics V16, 400 hours, Cert.

Other Experience and Training:
Cad Key 97, Autocad 10-13, Multicad, drafting, G-code programming, advanced print reading.

Advanced autobody, custom car and limousine fabrication, antique car restoration, laser programming and operation.

MIG, TIG, ARC, Flux, Gas, welding and print reading. BEEP School, and custom architectural metal fabrication.

I’ve also had customer service skills in the past, including Bartending and cashier/counter work.

Please contact me at :

navyharbordog at yahoo dot com
This will my DetroitYES acct. for contact.

Thank you.

See if you can get your resume looked at over at Triumph Gear Systems in Shelby Twp. They seek people with a machine shop background. That's what they told me when I interviewed for a job there in February anyway. Good luck!

I heard on the radio that Norfolk & Southern Railroads will begin to hire soon. They have a comprehensive website, you might want to check there. Good luck.

The Israeli company "Tomcar" is locating a main production facility in Auburn Hills. It's supposed to start with 91 employees, then grow to 150 at full production volume.

Thanks Johnlodge -

I applied there as soon as I saw the story on the news last week.

I appreciate all the encouragement and leads from the caring people on this forum. This is a social network that can make a difference in bringing this area back to prominence.

Thank's all!

no leads in that field and in that geographic location, but I wish you the best of luck in this trying time.

One idea for you, if you could muster SOME cash to work with, and if you have any bachelors degree, apply to a school offering a paralegal program. From what I hear, that is about a 6 month program, as long as you have a bachelors degree. If you were to perform well in the program, you could get hired immediately and look to make 40k-50k starting out, with the prospect of making 80k if you were an EXTREMELY successful detroit-area paralegal.

Bigb23: I feel your pain. I have been out of work for 8 months now. I spend most of my days looking for work online. Not much out there. Anyway, my background is plastics molding/tooling. Are you sure you are looking in the right places? It seems that I see more jobs listed with your skill set than mine. Maybe expand your geographical area. I know that's a tough thing to do with the price of gas. I interviewed a couple weeks ago 47 miles from home. It would have been a grueling commute, as most of it was on 696. At this point, I would have gladly taken it. Good luck with your search, you are not alone!

Wash_man, I wish you luck too. My last full time position was with plastic injection mold systems. We took a hit!

I plan to retrain as soon as I find a somewhat permanent position. I've already been approved through FAFSA.
As far as traveling, last winter, I took a temp position, at 300 miles a week commute, and my monthly gasoline bill was equal to one take home paycheck. And that was with gas @ $2.90/ Gal.

I just now landed a local job, I finished my Engineering degree in February and have been looking hardcore since then. I got my best job leads by going directly to a company's website and applying in the career section. The Illinois / Iowa job market it HOT right now due to increased crop commodities. Any agriculturally based company like John Deere or Case New Holland is looking to fill lots of positions fast. Deere flew me out for an interview last month, put me up in a hotel and everything.

"The Illinois / Iowa job market it HOT right now due to increased crop commodities"

Is that what it is? Four Iowa cities were on the list for Lowest unemployment in the nation. about 6 Michigan cities were on the list for highest.I just want to escape winter, which is the one thing holding me back from moving to Iowa myself: Winter is as bad as ours or worse there.

Andylinn,

The legal market, at least in the western suburbs is hurting a bit too. As a paralegal w/my BS completed in December from Madonna U, I, as well as many of my classmates, are finding it slim pickens out there right now. Theories abound as to why but many smaller firms are not getting paid and some are taking cases on contingencies w/o retainers (just to get the work) and are getting burned. Others are spending an inordinate amount of time trying to collect. Reluctantly, I have turned my attention to larger firms where the work may be more regimented and compartmentalized. Granted, it is difficult to accurately gauge any market in this economic climate.

To all who helped me here - I found a job in Macomb Co. doing skilled trades, a rarity in Michigan now.
Let's just hope that we have only good news for this area for the future. But, I'll still take any leads you might have - just in case!

Due to emergency surgery in August, I lost my job while recovering in the Hospital. I'm healthy again and searching for work.

I thought I would bump this back up there, just in case.

Thanks

Pay will be highly competitive and benefits are outstanding including, Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short Term and Long Term Disability and company matched 401k.”

DDC is also seeking a TIG Welder
“Seeking experienced welder with heavy TIG experience for North Slope construction project. Job is 100% TIG, please do not apply if you are not proficient in TIG. Small diameter pipe welding and test. Must have at least 5 years work experience and prefer NSTC but not required. Will be performing pipe fitting as well. Pay is $34/hr with full medical benefits. Rotation will be a 3/3 and the position starts immediately. Average hours 85 per week. Must pass drug screen and weld test to be offered employment. I'm close to eviction unless I find something soon.
I don't have any family left for help. And the State of Michigan DHS is turning away eligible clients. I can work virtually any place if we can share driving or expenses. I have multiple skills and am a very quick learner. I'm located about 10 miles North of Rochester Hills. Thanks for looking again.

Bigb23, We are pretty much at the end of our funds soon too. So I understand. But we fortunate to have family helping.

If you do really think you're getting evicted , I might and it's a slim chance at that, be able to hook you up with a place to stay. A friend in Detroit has a large house, he has rented rooms with house privileges for years. He has on occaision provided free rent in exchange for work around the house. His health is failing.

In year's past it was always maintained beautifully but with this economy and his income down, there's plenty of maintenance routine or otherwise needed at the moment.

I really hope I haven't offended you because I know this sounds demeaning. But if this could be worked out, it would beat the hell out of living in your car or a shelter. If it makes you feel any better, we have a friend with an MBA from Harvard in a homeless shelter right now. Did't suggest this arrangement to him for too many reasons to type.

In the mean time, I really hope a good job comes through for you.

I already E-mailed Lowell to remove the post, because I can't.(Time limit).

I came up with a little financial help to keep me here for now.

Thanks for the offer, Sumas.
