Have anyone heard anything about the Palmer Park area being a private, fenced off area in the future, if so please respond. Also why is it so hard for the city of Detroit to accept gays? You go anywhere else to other big places like Atlanta, D.C., the Carolinas, California..etc.. and they are so nice to everyone, here in Detroit they act like gay people just landed here from mars or somewhere and just wanna act a fool. |

No but for real, my concern is what are they really going to do about that area, they already know that Palmer Park is gay territory. |

Welcome to the Forum! K2thabeezy, check out the Mexicantown thread from earlier today. By the way, in response to your first post, didn't you hear about the singer in New York. I think his name is Kevin Aviance. Anyways, I don't know about Detroit's scene, but I just thought I'd point out that no big city is perfect. |

the Carolinas being gay-friendly??????? That is the first I have heard that one. I live in Baltimore and have gay friends that would rather marry a woman than venture into that territory. |

This doesn't make any sense. Why would Palmer Park be fenced off and what does that have to with gays |

"They" are the man! but not all men. just those men...that won't let men be men...with men! Watch out for them...especially if you see them in a fence truck |

K2-Palmer Park was a big hang out for Dorothy's friends back in the 70's, when the apartments near there were heavily festive. I don't think the park is today. |

Detroit has a very high African American percentage. Percentage-wise African Americans are more (christian) religous than other ethnic groups. Christianity as a whole isn't overly accepting of gays. Thus, Detroiters aren't that accepting of gays. |

(laughin) you crazy! I just like to keep it real at all times because its the only way to be with me, you feel me!. I just like to see everyone get along, you know life is too short for all this madness and crazy carry on stuff. Detroit is trying to come back up the charts and people need to be more respectable to this city and not destroy it. Thats why people don't like coming to Detroit because we don't have anything to offer. |

Actually very few gay people live in Palmer Park,I'd venture to say that the apartments over there are filled with low income famlies, young single mothers and older people on SSI and SSD,as far as gay people hanging out there thats a different story. Up until last year they used to hang out on the eastern side of the park in the parking lot otherwise known as the "duck pond" side, then police up and locked the gates so that they could no longer fratenize there. Now they have migrated over to the west side of the park near the pool and its business as usual. |

You right "superduperman" its not a lot of gay people that live over in the residence area but for some years now they have been partying in the parking lot near the pond area and ive heard several reasons why that part of the park is closed. One of the lesbian girls out there had a bad break up with her lover and she try to committ suicide in front of everybody out there. At one time they were being too loud in front of the residence, always fighting. But the funny part about all of this is when a fight breaks out its always the females, them sistas be scrappin, you here me(laughin). Recently i turn on my radio not knowing that Charles Pugh had a talk show called "thats wassup" and this particular day he had the city of detroit commissioner on the show. Charles mentioned that he was pissed off because they closed the part down where everybody hangs out. Well the answer to his question was they were trashing the area, so until they can show some respect for that area as far as keepin it clean, it will continue to be closed. |

Schitt, Detroit's segregation is so bad they have TWO Pride Day's. One for whites and one for blacks. If they can't even find common ground this city will never recover. |
