I personally will never shop at a store that uses Swedish sweatshop labor to make its products. Take a stand people!

I can't believe people have been camping out there for a few days now. "Oh wow free stuff, I better put a tent up for 2 days to get an $80 dollar chair.".... Retards, get a life and a job.

I bet a lot of those people waiting to get inside IKea- are paid to do so- look at all the free publicity Ikea is getting-
Since when did stuff from China come off as "made in Detroit?"

Below is the website for the new House of Sweden (Swedish Embassy) down the street from my office. I think they purchased the building materials from Ikea, because it went up pretty quickly, and I saw lots of those hex wrenches lying all over the ground when I walked by.

What fun to be the contractor on that project. The construction documents have numbered pictorial steps. No messy words!

I agree, Why go to a store that pays their workers a living wage? Support only stores that over charge for their wares and underpay their workers. To hell with the working man ...... Do any of you really have any idea what you're talking about. Or are you just posturing again without thinking?

Let's see here ... how many threads can we have going at the same time on IKEA? How about Cheesecake Factory? Hmmm...

All of this stuff has already been discussed ad nauseam.

Time to move on.

Or we could build an elevated rail-line/monorail from IKEA to a downtown Cheesecake Factory at Tiger Stadium...and then name the thing after Bush.

Police are expecting at least 20,000 people for IKEA's opening - the parking lot only holds a few thousand

I've been told four or five PDs will be on scene for traffic control and tow trucks will be standing by (no joke)

Me too! Been probably a good 1.5 years since the last time. It was still a zoo.

Emeryville or EPA?

Haha. They have some fun stuff. But its disposable furniture. I like them better for accessories than things like couches, desks, etc, which are pretty crappy, even if they look pretty cool.

Detroit residents can get IKEA's assembly directions on VCR or DVD for their (60%) functional illiterates. They even come with Sesame Street help for numbers and the alphabet, plus pictures of screw or nut drivers, nuts, bolts, and hex wrenches.

Mrs Mauser challenged me to a drinking game - you have to drink everytime a local news flunky chortles "IKEA!" on the tv. Right now we are both nearly passed out, and we're headed back to the store for more liquor.

Does it really make you this angry? Did IKEA murder someone? Did it rape a child? Did it drive-by shoot a teenager? There's nothing "disturbing" about this- you people just want to bitch.

Seriously. What is so disturbing about this. Didn't "our" president go and start a war with out any grounding, tank our economy, and start spying on us all? Maybe we should start placing our attention in areas that may matter. Ikea. Come on people, its a fargin' store. You don't like it. Shut up and don't shop there.

I just got back from the IKEA store in Vancouver and had the meatballs there and they were pretty darn good. For those of you who insist on boycotting IKEA on some flimsy wacky moral high ground, that's your perogative. Bitching about it here is about as nutty as the folks you condemn for sitting out there waiting for the grand opening.

So I braved the crowds and checked out IKEA today. Wasn't as much of a madhouse as I expected.

VERY cool. I wasn't going to buy anything today, but I think my trip before I move into my new house at school will be mighty expensive... And it's not the furniture- it's the little things like coffee mugs (50 cents) and glasses (6/$6) and funny ice cube trays and cool table lamps and rugs... I really enjoyed myself. Also enjoyed a plate of meatballs and some lingenberry juice. If this is what Sweden is like, I'm there.

There was one very strange thing about it, though- They have the furniture set up in these model rooms, and the shelves all have books on them. Except EVERY book, bar none, is in Swedish. We looked around, and thought we found some English copies of Seabiscuit, until we opened them and found they too were in Swedish.

IKEA doesn't mess around.

I was happy to see the silly suggestion to boycott IKEA. With the crowds these stores get, if someone wants to stay away that's great. There is some neat stuff there at good prices, items you can't find anywhere else. Stay away! Keep shopping at Super Wal-Mart.

My grand-ma and your grand-ma were
Sit-tin’ by the fire. - my grand-ma told
Your grand-ma: "i’m gon-na set your flag on fire."--

Chorus:
Talk-in’ ’bout, hey now ! hey now ! IKEA, IKEA, un-day
Jock-a-mo fee-no ai na-né. - jock-a-mo fee na-né.-

Look at my king all dressed in red.-
IKEA, IKEA, un-day. I bet-cha five dol-lars he’ll kill you dead.--
Jock-a-mo fee na-né

(repeat chorus)

My flag boy and your flag boy were
Sit-tin’ by the fire. - my flag boy told
Your flag boy: "i’m gon-na set your flag on fire."

(repeat chorus)

See that guy all dressed in green ? -
IKEA, IKEA, un-day. he’s not a man;
He’s a lov-in’ ma-chine.--
Jock-a mo fee na-né.--

(repeat chorus)

That's the only thing I can think of when I see or hear the IKEA name!!!!
