Corner of Second @ Alexandrine. Not a total loss, but the front is burned out. I'm told it's one of the last big drug houses in the neighborhood; run by the drug dealers themselves. (Message edited by itsjeff on June 06, 2006) |

Yeah, but which corner? Is it the house with others adjacent to it or is it the one with a vacant lot next to it? |

Southeast corner, 3945 Second, next to the two manions for sale and across the street from Fr. Russ' hospice. Kitty-corner from the El Moore, which is converting to condos. Not too far from Tomboy's. |

It is the one on the east side of the street just south of alexandrine. Right next to it on the north side of the apt building are two victorian homes. On the south side there are vacant lots. This has been a location of many a suspect person hanging out the window handling illegal substances or looking out with a birds eye view of street activity. Hopefully the building can be saved and the bad people pushed out. |

Troy, meet Jeff. Jeff, Troy. On other matters, Troy are you studying at the Danny/Ghettoman School of Composition? Your phrasing, especially of the "suspect person hanging out the window" brought to mind early posts from him. |

I am not trying to use the "danny starter kit". It would not suprise me if there was a fire to cover up a shooting. Over the last three weeks there has been quite an increase in gun play in the neighborhood. The control of the drug trade is a wild west war right now at second and alexandrine. |

I swear someone lit one off in HART PLAZA when I was jogging through there yesterday. Thought for a moment it might be one of the Hot Fudger's taking assassination practise shots...but there isn't a clean line-of-sight from the Court Building. Histeric and NDavies are still suspects, though, if they were hanging around that 600 Woodward project...and there is always that Skulker dude to worry about, but he ain't gonna take me out when I'm this close to having his turntable working. |

I know firecrackers and I know guns. Living in the corridor for 9 years has taught me to distiguish the sounds quite easily. The last few weeks have been open fire. My next door neighbor witnessed 2 incidents of gun play right in front of tomboy during daylight hours. Saturday night there were two people going at it on second about 10 shots from two guns at 3am. I actually got to the window to see one guy running away. Right now according to police, is that due to 3 busts in front of tomboy there is new gang appeal on the turf. Second and Alexandrine has been a hot bed for dealing and guns ever since I moved down. No question about it that the Century and the victorian next door have been a major player in the drug market over the last 9 years. Second floor balcony is where "braids" used to sit before being taken down. Easy to see what is going on there by standing in front of tomboy for 30 minutes. You will know the 4 cars in play, the abandon car drop, the 6 bicyclists, and the dozen runners. |

Troy, For the record...especially being able to discern the difference in sounds...running TO the window during outside gunplay is NOT the recommended practise. I'll ever forget the last week or so before I moved out of the orange apartment building on the east edge of the Lodge just north of Chicago (Glynn Ct.)...there was a fierce turf war in the 'hood. Heard machine gunfire at 3 a.m. UNDER a viaduct of the Lodge...waking to the automatic weapon's echo was the freakiest thing. A few nights later, I was strumming my guitar when an altercation happened at the corner right underneath my third-floor window. I hit the floor...banging the guitar in the process...and later my upstairs neighbor called laughing. They were having a fit because of my evasive action...but stopped giggling when I reminded them that they never considered what a stray shot or two could do. Future Darwin Award candidates, for certain. |

My window is 3rd floor as well so I dont get too concerned. That is as safe as I felt like going. After having guns pulled on me right in front of my house I want to make sure that if there is a innocent person in need I am trying to get them help, what ever it takes. Waiting out the battle. |

see, you say that, and i want to agree, but while sitting on the patio of the garden bowl this evening, I heard "urban fireworks" coming from the area of 2nd and alexandrine....not in the last 7/8 or so years of hanging out there have I heard gunshots in the area (save for the pistons winning the championship in '04 and new years). I know this kinda stuff exists in every city, but to have it going on so close to a huge university, medical center, and a well traveled city artery boggles my mind (Message edited by gravitymachine on June 07, 2006) |

I live basically AT the corner. I was outside until 10ish or so, and then up till 1ish. (Except for a 20 minute excursion in my car) I didn't hear any gun fire near me. In fact, I didn't really hear too many firecrackers etc too close either. I have heard gunfire before (and I've been firing guns on and off since I was 6 - I grew up in the country), but not last night. Unless it happened to be in that 20 minutes, I believe you are mistaken. |

It was, I dont know if it still is. Run the same way his building is run on third. Act like there is no problem while your dad gives 20 minute drama speeches about how we cant have this type of activity in the neighborhood, at community meetings. People turn their backs on negative items if it supplies what they need. |
