Downtown was swarming with street cleaners this morning. I saw probably a dozen near Grand Circus Park alone. What Mr. Penske promises, he seems to deliver. Why isn't he mayor? |

Isn't it obvious? Because he's competent, does what he says and makes a difference... He's too straight-forward to be a Politician and would therefore, never be voted into office. Besides, he is MUCH more effective in his current position. Just get him more involved. |

Great. I was wondering how this would kick off. By the way, GCP has been looking much nicer this pastr spring. The lights are on, both fountains are in working condition, landscaping well taken care of. Big difference from last year already |

1953, Do you really think a white man could win an election for mayor of Detroit? Don't you remeber that one of the problems that many residents had with freeman hendrix is that he wasnt black enough?! Im not saying that he wouldn't be a great mayor, or that race should have anything to do with politics but let's be serious. |

7mile, I think any quality candidate for mayor could win an election for mayor. Especially one such as Roger Penske. |

Or was the problem that most of the electorate didn't know how to spell his name correctly? Or, on a related note, much of anything else? |

There have been crews with leaf blowers and powered water guns cleaning the Riverwalk between the Joe and through Hart Plaza along the Riverfront almost every day this past week. Nice to see them out and about keeping things looking better! (WHAT??? all the lights work in GCP? That'll be the first time in the last 3 decades not including the Superbowl and World Series) |

Considering Penske's campaign donations, he has the power of the mayor without having to be the mayor. |

FYI Kids: Roger and the Mayor's Clean Downtown Initiative doesn't kick off until next Thursday. Probably the City and County doing the street cleaning. I saw them all over Mound and Mt. Elliot earlier this week. |

These were hardly city workers. Maybe it was a chain gang after the chains had been sold to help pay down the budget deficit. |

Thecarl, Most low-income folks in Detroit can't even afford a lawn mover. Most of them are willing to do their part for a cleaner Detroit. But some of them just have the money or the power. |
