Anyone else see all the fighter jets flying over midtown/downtown/Detroit this morning? I've seen about two sets of fighter jets in the last 30 minutes. Quite a site to see (and hear).

Is this for the war against Livonia, or what?

Flew by twice at my place. They do this every now and then just to remind those crazy Candians not to mess with the big dog. :-)

We had a couple sets fly over the Dearborn Memorial Day Parade. They always add a nice touch to the event.

I live near Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach VA. Those Hornets will SSCCRRREEEEAMMM and shake the ground when they fly over. Wouldn't be too bad if the DID close the base.

I saw the 2 F-16's over Lake St. Clair this morning at 11 AM in connection with their annual "fly by" at the GP War Memorial annual Memorial Day program. Sometimes, the "Yankee Lady" from the YAF takes a run over the lake, too, but I think today the Lady was in Farmingdale New York for an air show.

catman_dude,
One question. Were you there before the jets? If not then you should of known better. I live where the Blue Angles practice and you don't see me complaining.

I remember after 9/11 hearing the Selfridge Air Base jets fly over the water near St. Clair Shores nearly every day at 5AM! This went on for a few months.

you haven't lived until you've been on the field of a stadium during a flyover. loudest thing i've ever heard. it's one thing having it fly overhead in the distance, but when it's right on top of you in a bowl... wow.

That would be sweet to live nearby where the blue angels practice. It was pretty amazing watching them fly by this morning. They move so damn fast, it's a wonder how these guys pilot these jets.

Chicago's air and water show is amazing. Maybe Detroit should have theirs over the River??? It is awesome to just see the power of these jet planes. I even got a chance to see the stealth bomber one year.

An airshow would be interesting for the Detroit River area. I'd much rather see them showing off their mechanical & aeronautical prowess as opposed to their firepower in a war.

riverfront here isn't airshow friendly, that's why they're held at Selfridge or Willow Run

If you want to see a good show on a waterfront go to the Cleveland National Air Show held annually at Burke Lakefront Airport over Labor Day weekend. Last year they had the Thunderbirds. The Blue Angels will be there this year.

Those damn dirty Livonians. I hear now that they're defeated, they want to immigrate to Detroit. I say we build a wall and keep the whitebacks out!

Speaking of air shows, allow me to put in a plug for the annual show at the YAF. "Thunder Over Michigan-2006"will be held on Aug 5 and 6 at Willow Run. This year they will feature fighter planes rather than bombers, but the only flying Lancaster ( bomber) in North America will also be at the show.It even dwarfs the B-17, and comes in from the Canadian Air Museum outside of Hamilton.www.yankeeairmuseum.org for details.
