I know not too many forumers would admit to goint to the Hoedown, but I went running Friday evening along my usual river route and came up through Hart Plaza in the middle of it. I won't drop any stereotypes about the crowd even though my hair is on fire when I see those Confederate Flags in Detroit. What most interested me was that the Homeland Security has set up a big mobile van right behind the Ren Cen and they have posted probably 5 or 6 of those gun boat dinghys on the river from the Ambassador Bridge to Belle Isle. I noticed the gun boats earlier in the week. Last time they were there was for the All Star Game. I'm just wondering. Are they worried the Taliban are going to go after the Confederate Flag rednecks from Metro Detroit? Never saw any gunboats for the Techno Fest, Jazz Fest or Concert of Colors.

Rest easy about the hoedown crowd, Gianni.

I wouldn't be too surprised if that crowd were packing enought firepower to make short work of the taliban & the gunboats simultaneously.

Which begs the questions: If people wonder how does she get those britches on, then where is she carrying?

cleavage, lower legs, in a purse, and always check all accessories carefully, especially cell phones

imagine what Dolly Parton could carry if she wore something she wasn't practically falling out of

I am actually working at this years Downtown Beerdown as a runner for the bands. I had some down time on Friday and went over to the river for a while... The gunboats were out there about 50 yards from the rail. Amusing thing was watching them tear ass back and forth. Instead of just hanging out they were seemingly showing off for some of the bursting young ladies resting their ample top halves on the railing. One boat raced up and down the Plaza frontage, cutting sharp turns right in front of the Underground Railroad monument. Reminded me of a kid in a Big Wheel grabbing the spin out handle. The poor guy in the bow was griping the gun mount for dear life, but the ladies loved it and cheered them on.

Don't any of you read the news and know the hot issue is illegal immigrantion? Those gun boats are there to keep Canadians from swimming into the US. Bush is cracking down and militarizing the borders to keep those rascally ice-backs from sneaking in.

It's always struck me as interesting that a hoe-down is held in downtown Detroit, but more power to them I guess.

After the judges left, Homeland security handed out pitch forks to the locals so they could defend themselves and hung the bulls eye back up.
