Google search indicates they're still in business, now located at 2121 Burdette St. in Ferndale. Phone is (248) 591-7484 if someone local wants to give a call and inquire.

Wasn't a bad looking building.

We did some defense work for Detroit Elevator Company. Some claims were phoney as a three dollar bill. Passengers claimed the elevator suddenly "plunged", others said that it stopped between floors etc. Everyone alleged they were hysterical, screamed for help to no avail etc. Maintenance inspections and security reports cast doubts on those claims, but there were some legitimate ones too.
Seems to me we were at the Franklin Street building to review inspection reports.

I worked for a developer about 12 years ago and we occasionally installed Detroit Elevators in some of the new homes (these were expensive custom homes). At that time (mid-90's) they were still located and operating out of the Rivertown building.

Although I can't confirm it, but I believe they moved when Archer was looking to place all the casinos down in the area; they took the money and ran to the burbs. Another mega-project folly brought on by government; let's chase the remaining businesses out of an area and hand the property to a mutli-billion dollar industry... (topic for another thread)

The DEC is indeed in Ferndale. I worked over there for a bit and would often drive by it; always seemed to be bustling with activity.
