The City of Detroit Municipal Parking Department’s Parking Violations Bureau (PVB) is offering the 5-5-50 Parking Ticket Program – 5th month, 5-days, 50% off on all parking tickets issued before January 1, 2006. This program is designed to provide an opportunity for citizens to pay delinquent parking tickets at reduced rates from May 1 through May 5, 2006. Citizens must pay all delinquent parking tickets in full to take advantage of the program, including tickets issued in 2006.

The 5-5-50 Program precedes a major crackdown on parking violations through increased enforcement and booting activity. Beginning May 8, 2006, PVB will take aggressive measures to collect the outstanding debt owed to the City. The department is already utilizing several enforcement measures to take legal action against parking offenders, including credit bureau reporting, wage garnishments, tax intercept programs and the impoundment and eventual auctioning of the vehicles of parking offenders.

"The 5-5-50 Program provides an opportunity for citizens to receive some relief in paying their parking tickets during difficult economic times,” said Shawny DeBerry, Deputy Director of the Municipal Parking Department.

Payments will be accepted beginning Monday, May 1 through Friday, May 5, 2006 from 9 am to 5 pm at the following locations:

Cashier and Drop Box Location:
Municipal Parking Department
Parking Violations Bureau

It seems like every year now they have an amnesty.

I'm cynical and I think something must be wrong in the big parking ticket collection plan - the threats, the camera cars, etc.

Drop the amnesty and just send the scofflaws to collection. Why should the city give breaks to people that choose not to pay their tickets.

Collections and boots are what is needed, not amnesty.

Keep quarters in your car, find the good spots or park in lots.

Tickets are one way to generate revenue that is not 100% on the backs of citizens. Why give scofflaws amnesty? I put money in the meters when I drive and have to park at a meter - why shoudl others that don't get 50% off?

Here's a true situation: on my street we have a mentally disturbed woman, very agitated all the time. She and her husband possess the only driveway on the street. They have also managed to snag TWO on-street handicapped parking reserved spots by stating (untruthfully) that they are seperated and that the woman lives with her able-bodied 30-year-old son just down the street who, as a result, also has reserved parking. hHe uses her hang-tag).

Everyone else is vying for a very limited amount of parking space. I live alone but many families have teen-age drivers and have three cars in the family.

So, one of the neighbors parks in the alley up close to his house when there is no other parking.
The emotionally disturbed lady calls the parking enforcement or the police out EVERY time this happens. She delights in seeing the tickets being issued. Its amazing that the little parking trucks trek all the way over to Vernor and Junction early and late, but they do.

This is why the guy who wrote that the City is one big parking ticket trap is pretty much correct. Its not only about parking at the meters - its about parking in the neighborhoods.

Is there a way to check if you have outstanding parking tickets? Some folks might not remember a ticket they received a few years ago and then perhaps misplaced. Also, pranksters sometimes steal tickets off of windshields and the illegal parker never learns of the violation.

36th district court - (313) 965-2200

They previously had online payment but it looks like it is being replaced and will not be up until June 20th. The phone system works very well and is all touch tone.

I believe that if you don't have a ticket number your drivers license number may suffice. You however should get notices in the mail. They are pretty good with that seeing as it is an outsourced service.
