Why is it that Detroit does not have an FM sports station? I'm sick of trying to get sports games on AM stations. I think the Lions and Nascar(yippee!) is on the radio, but why not the other sports? The broadcasts never come in and sound like crap otherwise. With all of the sports in Detroit why is there not a FM frequency to play some sports broadcasts? Discuss. |

Where are you? I can get Tigers games even when I'm at my parents' house in St. Clair County. |

It's mostly 1130, but 1270, too. I believe they power down at night and that makes it hard to pick up the broadcasts. WJR always comes in crystal clear, though. |

Most cities I've been too only have AM sports stations... FM is good for music because it sounds better, but AM has longer range. |

Yeah I feel your pain. WXYT has got a feeble signal! The Wings and Tigers sound horrible at times. I'm thankful that the Pistons are on WDFN and the Lions are on WKRK (an FM station). I have no idea what deal the Ilitches and WXYT made but it sure as heck didn't take their fans into consideration. It's times like this that I miss them being on a superstation like WJR. |

I miss listening to the Tigers and Red Wings games at night here in DC....they really need to go back to WJR. Off the thread, but I wish Ernie Harwell, George Kell and Budd Lynch were doing play-by-play; they were the best! |

WXYZ has a medicore signal that fades in and out depending where you are when listening to it, and it's sports' show is worse. Just a bunch of dribble. The last good program heard on WXYZ was The Lone Ranger in the 50's. |

Actually the team I miss the most on broadcasts were Bruce Martyn & Sid Abel. There were actually a few years where they were doing the TV AND radio broadcasts simultaneously. I loved hearing Bruce Martyn's voice as he had that rising pitched "He shoots, he scooooores!" Sid was an absolute gentleman and always added some wonderful insights into the game. My favorite memory was of a Wings game versus the much vaunted Edmonton Oilers. The Wings were absolutely getting decimated and ol' Sid pipes in with a "Bruce, they oughtta toss another puck out there on the ice so the Wings could play with it every now & then". I was in stitches thinking about how ridiculous of a game it must've been; I was envisioning a game of monkey in the middle on ice and our poor Dead Things were just there for Gretzky's entertainment. |

Overall I just don't get good or good enough signals with the AM stations. Very dissapointing. I know lansing has the Ticket or something (FM Sports station) which was very nice to listen too. |

92.1 in Lansing changed format, it is now an oldies station. It abruptly changed only a couple weeks ago. Ilitch moved to XYT if I can remember correctly because of money. Geez, I can remember listening to Ernie and Paul Carey from my grandparents house in Indiana on WJR. Now, I can barely squeek a signal out of Ohio to listen to the Tigers when I am down there. |

Fans be damned if money comes between them and the owners. Forget what kind of reception you get. |

97.1 does do the Lions games and after the flurry of positive reactions to how clear they sound, etc, I wouldn't be surprised if another station follows suit for other games... perhaps one of the public stations? 91.1? |

Clarity and range are two different things unfortunately. 97.1 does have a great signal though. I really miss the days when WJR would carry the games all across the state and then some. |
