Scrappers have been trying to pry off the large brass historical marker on the old Cass Tech (at corner of service drive and Second). Lately the the property has become a total dump and homeless people and drug dealers have taken up residence inside the archways. One more indication that DPS cannot take care of its properties.

thanks for the update itsjeff about the brass marker. there is a non-profit development company that has formed to try to work with dps to take the building through a development process - dps has been somewhat receptive to the idea, but the non-profit has not secured an option as of yet. udm school of architecture last spring did a semester long design and feasibility study for the building - with particular possibilty in resuing the old building. dps secured the windows and have shut some of the systems down. the homeless setting up shop in the archways is definitely an issue that needs to be addressed. the building is rock solid and has potential, but has issues. we're doing our best!

To an alum, this is very disturbing.

jjaba, Class of '59. (back in the day when people didn't think about defacing Detroit. The Cass Corridor was a thing of vitality, beauty.)

jjaba must report to duty as the apostle of a re-imagined cass tech. he must spread the word far and wide to other alums that this can happen.

So that's what happened to old Lion's coach, I guess being chief janitor is a step up.

Not the same guy? Never mind.

The Tech blacksmithing program stands ready to begin repairs.

Hornwrecker's picture is AWESOME! Not only are the kids holding hammers, some poor kid has to draw a picture of one.

Man they didn't miss a beat back then, did they. At the end of the day, you KNEW what a hammer looked like, or else!

Crew, wrong school. Students at Wilbur Wright on 12th Street made shoes. But you've got a great idea for a new Detroit industry.
