Anyone think Jerome Bettis has been whored around town since the Stuper Bowl? Seems like the city gov tries to latch onto any cheap glory they can get.

He's from Detroit. He loves Detroit. He's putting his money into Detroit. He's not a puppet. Please make this stupid thread stop.

I think Chitaku is a genius! He's uncovered a vast right-wing, leftist, moderate-extremist plot, involving the City of Detroit's attempt to showcase a citizen done good.

Excellent work!

The man is keeping Jerome Bettis down by elevating his stature in Detroit!

If I see him in a commercial flying around with Mel Farr then maybe. Until then he's what Gotdetroit says : "a citizen done good".

Let's open it up then-- who can we get to have this ceremonial toss without them being called a puppet or a cheap shill?

I don't think throwing out the first pitch makes you a cheap shill or a puppet. Teams tend to get someone the fans want to see -- and the crowd seemed to love Bettis (while the mayor got a very different reaction -- so much for Detroit Love.)

I was a the game and I was wondering -- what the hell were the Mayor and Bob Ficano doing out there? All they did was get introduced, stand behind Bettis while he threw the pitch, and then leave. WTF?

They have to represent as the office holders of the City and County that Comerica Park are in. I went to two White Sox games last year.

They all do this shit.

Is it true that he (Bettis) bounced it in? That's what I heard.

MLB should have rule that if you can't get the ball to the catcher without bouncing it in you have to drop your pants around your ankles before you walk off the field.

I got to meet Jerome Bettis today. He was as genuine and sincere as any celebrity I've met. Instead of just saying hi, he actually engaged me in Conversation, instead of trying to get away like so many do. He asked me questions about my work, which is something I would not have expected from a high profile person.

Later on, he was taking pictures with people on Woodward, and just chatting with people around town. Good guy, IMO.

quote:

but sonny elliot called it a strike!

chitaku, i think it's great that the community is rallying around someone who wants to do big things for the city. he's taking a gamble on a city he could have left long forgotten. the loyalty is admirable, he's showing leadership, and his prominence is earned, and due. i think it's sad that you're putting a negative spin on the situation. too bad you couldn't have been there on woodward today to ask i'm if he felt "whored around." from the sounds of it, i'm sure he could have really enlightened you.

What about our other beloved sons and daughters like Tim Meadows, Booger from "Revenge of the Nerds" Winston from Ghostbusters, and Casey Kasem. Why do we not embrace these beloved celebrities from our beloved city.

We've technically got enough favorite sons & daughters to outlast us a couple hundred Opening Day games. The Bus just happens to be topical at the moment so why not adore the guy for winning the Super Bowl in his hometown?
