Very sad ... Delphi too. Wonder what will happen to Dayton, OH. Once a cash register town became a GM/Delphi town.

gm towns are doing better than uaw towns. the media sensationalizes all the jobs going outside our borders, but a lot of manufacturing jobs have moved to non-uaw states.

i despise corporate greed, but i have no pity for factory workers demonstrating no more than a sense of entitlement.

What a bunch of crap -- selling the city for scrap!

Way to go ma'man Kwami!

Kwami

Kwami's Scraper Urban Renewal Works Program.

scraper

I didn't think anyone could be as bad a Soulman Young but then Kwami came along and raised the bar on incompetence another few feet.

Coleman

This is the first thing that should be scrapped the monument for "Detroit Family Values"!

Once dismantled and processed, Detroit is expected to yield nearly 14 million tons of steel, 2.85 million tons of aluminum, and approximately 837,000 tons of copper.

Hmmm, I thought all the copper was already stripped from Detroit. ;)

Found a few parts of it humourous, but there was a strong whiff of mean-spiritedness in the article.

What is really a turn-off is the spin and deception of the article. Isn't the photograph taken just north of I-75 with Comerica in the background about construction and not demolition? Also the line about the New York, Chicago, LA already having "too many historic Art Deco buildings of their own" is totally a windbag statement.

Still was surprised to read "landmark Guardian Building" in a national paper. Unlike a well-known structure like Tiger Stadium, always felt the Guardian was a building known only to those who know Detroit.

People. It's the Onion. Stop taking yourselves so seriously and laugh a little. They hold punches for no one.

I just knew there would be people complaining about the "Detroit bashing" and all that bullshit. Some of you people will whine and complain about anything if it even has a hint of negative about Detroit.

Thin skin's a bitch. Shut up and laugh.

Funny for sure. lol. I for one can appreciate this article because I know that the fanatical scrappers in Detroit would scrap the Ren Cen in a heartbeat if they could. On the east side I see big old pickups piled with scrap all the time, looks like they're getting started! I love the Onion. :-)

Love The Onion. I used to get the freebie hard copies every week when living in its home base - Madison. UW again is the #1 college party-town, according to the radio on Monday.

The section from the local police files is a hoot, too. Accounts of bungling, stupid criminals getting caught breaking into cops' or jocks' homes, among others.
