That is the latest word from some folks that have their finger on the pulse. Can anyone verify or dismiss this? Then again, it could be a Planet Hollywood, or a Cheescake Factory, or a Morton's... |

Yes,I agree it is a bit overratted, no place is worth a two hour wait... BUT I still sometimes drive out to Somerset and deal with the wait just to eat that wonderful spicy chicken eggplant. Please please please let it be true, I am so hungry. |

The E&Y building is a much better name. Kennedy Square is gone, vanished. So how can there be a "One Kennedy Square?" Very stupid name. PF Chang's restaurants are only found in very high traffic or pedestrian locations, safe locations, if you will, from a food/retail perspective. It seems very unlikely that the E&Y space satisfies their requirements. If it does, that would indicate some very significant progress for the CBD. |

Fjw - isn't E&Y the only tennant in the NYC building (is this one of the properties actually owned and not leased)? The Kennedy Square building is not owned by E&Y and is leased by others as well. E&Y is considered the premier tenant because the lease is for the top 2 floors, which I guess is why the logo is on the building... |

Sorry to break it to you Swingline, but you are exactly wrong about the names. It's dumb to put the word 'building' behind everything. We know they are buildings, quite redundant in my book. 'One Kennedey Square' is fine, and so would be 'Ernst & Young'. Notice how we say 'Compuware' vs 'The Compuware Building'. Makes much more sense. I hate the excessive use of acronyms as well. naturalsister |

I for one think the "EY" building should retain its name "One Kennedy Square" since that name has special historical significance which we should be proud of. |

Anybody want to start a new business? http://www.bdsmongolianbarbequ e.com/frsitecriteria.html http://www.bdsmongolianbarbequ e.com/FranchiseApplication.pdf It seems to me that the number of visitors (both local for events, and from out of town) as well as site visibility would mitigate for not quite making the residential targets. That and the much higher daytime population. |

Where was that supposed to go in Merchants row? I thought it was planned for the two storefronts at the corner of state and Woodward, kitty corner from the back of Compuware. Someone was been doing a lot of work in those storefronts. It's a space that looks like it's big enough for that type of grocer to start at. |

It's not Cheesecake Factory. After dining at one in Schaumburh, IL last summer, I actually contacted their headquarters about locating restaurants in MI. I was told there were no plans to do so, but after getting my letter, they would take a look at MI. I don't know if they were just appeasing me, or what. But it's not a CF downtown. |

I am distressed. I heard a rumor that Trader Joe's was considering opening a branch in the old Lafayette Park Market space, but decided not to because demographics showed that there was not enough clientele to support it. ??????????? What?? What about all of the current and future up-scale subdivisions between Corktown and the Grosse Pointes.... aren't they enough? I myself would be there EVERY day BTW I didnt know what E&Y meant at first felt stoopid |

I think the national chains will be reactive and not proactive. Probably a few years away. Until then we'll have to depend on folks like the Southern Hospitality group and others to provide us with fine dining. I'm more impressed with their services.....they seem to try a lot harder. |

PF Changs will be a nice addition to the City. Many suburbanites and most out of town guests need familiar places to dine..at least the first time they come down. Eventually they will venture out to the local restaurants once comfortable with the surroundings. |

Hey everyone, I don't mean to be a downer debbie, but when you look at the population density of the areas where a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's goes, and compare it with the density of any area of Detroit, we tend to come up lacking. Sure, to US it seems like the population is bustling, but in reality we need about 10x as many people in these areas to justify the type of grocery retail (or other restaurant/retail) most people want. |

Come on people, get a little realistic. Trader Joe's and Whole Foods etc. need the right kind of demographics in addition to density, or rooftops as they say. Right or wrong, these retailers rely heavily on demographic research. For upscale grocers, think households with $75K income and up. Unless an area has enough of this demographic, these kinds of retailers stay away. This demographic is too thin anywhere in Detroit including the CBD. |

Trader Joe's is hardly an 'upscale' grocer. The prices there are super-low. When I was an undergrad in crime-ridden Ann Arbor, I shopped there over Kroger's. EDIT: It reminds me of a dollar store of grocery stores. (Message edited by Everyman on April 04, 2006) |
