What's the deal with the coffee shop in the Forest Arms Apartments on the corner of 2nd and Forest. Is it open now? Was it closed recently? Is it good? |

i was there this morning and there were three "baristas" working, which i thought was odd since i was the only one in there. it is small but cozy but it is going to be hard to compete to attractions closer to campus. for now they must close up by 7:00p on the weekdays since they are located in a residential building- i think they are trying to work through that with management to extend their hours. |

They don't have a very obvious storefront. I noticed two flags hoisted above the sign, and I guess that's about it... Anyone have any idea of their real hours? |

I was in there yesterday to see the place, try the coffee, and read my Sunday paper. Very friendly, laid back, bright and comfy, good coffee (I'll get a stronger roast next time), ability to enjoy a smoke if you like (but not a smokey place if you don't like), it will be good when they get a larger schedule of regulars. |

Here's the truth about US! This our third week of business. If you haven't been in yet, please come by & see for yourself! ------------------------ Now open for business daily Monday - Friday 7am to 7pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 9pm (*Extended Hours coming soon!): AMSTERDAM ESPRESSO 4639 Second Avenue - under the bright blue awning, on the corner of Forest and 2nd Avenue, in mid-town Detroit's Cass Corridor; a genuine "neighborhood coffee shop", with a friendly, community oriented atmosphere. Specializing in a variety of locally roasted, fair trade coffees; some organic and shade grown. Featuring Lavazza espresso, "Italy's Favourite Coffee" and Motor Cityblend as the house coffee, as well as a wonderful Sumatra, available now, for a very limited time. The friendly, well-trained barista can pull a traditional Ristretto (restricted) shot or make a variety of authentic coffee drinks with one of many, yummy flavors of the all natural "1883" brand french syrups, or Ghiradelli chocolate, white chocolate and caramel, using whole, low-fat or soy milk. Round out the experience with one of our all natural snacks, baked fresh daily, right here in our own neighborhood. Non coffee-drinkers can enjoy a Chai or one of our wonderful, aromatic Harney & Sons teas, hot chocolate, or a Steamer (steamed milk with flavored syrup); and coming soon: a full line of all natural cold drinks. Relax and get to know your neighbors on comfy, indoor seating with wi-fi access, as well as outdoor, cafe seating. Owners Hali Stone and David Bedient, both native Detroiters, and city residents, encourage you to stay a while, if you can, and engage in stimulating conversation with new and old friends. "Everyone likes good things." is our motto and our goal is to provide just that. (Message edited by grace_detroit on April 14, 2006) |

Welcome to the forum Grace and good luck with your business. The location is interesting as there is a lot of coffee house types in that neighborhood of apartments and students and faculty. Are you in that space where the record shop used to be? A non franchise coffee house has been a missing element since Zoots [think that was the name] closed. It was next to the Bronx bar. [BTW, even though you violated the forum policy on advertising, you get a pass this time as it is relevant news. But you owe me a free cup of coffee when I show up. ] |
