So the city does the right thing and turns over operations of the DHM to the DHS. What is the headline:

Museum fans must scare up $1.5M a year

Detroit Historical Society says it will be no problem to find funds after takeover from city.

Takeover - How is that a takeover. Was that a slip up or an intentional misuse of the word in an attempt to get people that glance at the headlines to think that the museum was taken over.

Seems a bit fishy to me. Sometimes I wonder about the integrity of the editors in our local media.

Hey DetroitNews - Nothing was taken over. The city turned operations over to the DHS.

Uh, they are TAKING OVER the running of the DHM. How else do you word it? Detroit will no longer run the museum, so that means somebody else is...you ready.....TAKING IT OVER.

(yawn)

A takeover is not the same as assuming operational responsibilities.

You're smarter than that Sport.

Example:

After the first shift workers put in their 8 hours of work, the second shift workers will take over. Doesn't mean that the second shift workers now own the company, they are simply taking over running the daily operations.

Seriously, need we be this anal over the Detroit News and their choice of words?

Completely differnt scenarios when you are comparing shifts to governmental respobsibilities.

The question was because it implies that there is a takeover just like people are pushing for taking over DWSD and taking over the city finances.

The simple fact is that the News is pandering to certain subscribers and this is not new or atypical for them. I expect them to report accurately as a news outlet.

Are they pandering, or are you hypersensitive? Who can tell.

Want to compare educations. I understand that we should all be in awe of your credentials as a realtor. Getting a job in that line of work is an academic achievement if ever there was one. I am certain that DPS graduates many, many students that go on to much greater things than being a realtor. Of course that only takes a GED and a license class.

What do you think about KKs comments about insurance in the State of the City address. You stated in the past that if there were redlining someone would be looking into it. Guess you may have been wrong.

OK - Along the same lines has anybody noticed that the Freep's metro section has a page for Oakland COunty and a page for the region which is inclusive of everyone else.

No pandering there or am I seeing a bias that does not exist.

You are correct on this thread Jt1. The News does pander, as do all the different forms of media in this town - and I also read it that way.

Do you people honestly think this isn't done to make things a little more exciting to sell papers? That is what they do. They know what plays in this town and they do it everyday in the different media outlets. Pandering to the divides in this town and subtly fanning the flames.

Even if it was worded that way without that intent, then we can just chalk it up to dumb luck. How convenient for them...

YAY!! Sell More Papers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the local section, I see: Region, Detroit, Wayne, Oakland, Macomb.

Same with detnews: Metro, Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston.

The real question is why are you buying the Oakland County version of the Freep? (They do produce localized versions with extra news for the applicable county, you know.)

Jt, sometimes you have a point but sometimes you sound like a professional victim. Turn the sensitivity of your Anti-Detroit Radar down, you're getting a lot of false positives.

Online, not print for the Freep. News still covers all counties with equal space.

I just checked the Freep.com. I see equal-sized sections for Detroit, Wayne, Oakland and Macomb. What are you talking about?

Look at the equal treatment spacewise for the four areas on this regional page http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/section?Category=NEWS&tem plate=front and on each of the separate Detroit, Wayne, Oakland and Macomb pages:

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/section?Category=NEWS01

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/section?Category=NEWS02

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/section?Category=NEWS03

Print edition only has Oakland as a primary page. The online has equal coverage and is fine. I may not have worded my last post properly.

That could very well be it since my coworker gets it. Thanks for clearning that up. My bad.

The thing is that people think this ruins my day. It doesn't. I just point out bias and inequality when I see it.

I still stand behind my 'takeover' argument but admit to being wrong on the Freep argument.

PS - I am a dumbass for not realizing that there are regional prints of the Freep and I was seeing my co-workers OC version.

Both online papers have a lot of room to improve, IMHO. Those nasty lo-res photos would be the first project on my list.

Kudos to detnews for their Rearview Mirror project though.

Jt, as Rosanne Rosanadana would say, "Never mind".

BTW, I also think you're wrong about "takeover", but knock yourself out. :-)

Well at least we both agree the other person is wrong.

Still waiting on Brian321's response about the City possibly filing lawsuits against the insurance companies.
