Hey i was thinking about writing a letter to Donald Trump (i know it sounds like an assanine idea... but it would hurt to try...). I don't live downtown so i really don't have a keen memory on what the area around campus martius park/along woodward looks like since the last time I've been down there. Is there any good proposal areas along (lower) woodward or near/around campus martius park that a possible trump tower (something related to Trump) could go? The reason I say campus martius area or (lower) woodward is because that seems sort of like "the spot"..(even though New Center is growing) in the summer and winter time....with the Border's Books and he Hard Rock Cafe, etc...

It seems like his niche is either high end residential or casino. Casinos are wrapped up and I don't think the market exists yet for a "trump" style development. Although, you never know, there are a lot of people with money in this town, and if they were to open up their wallets, it might be for a Trump development downtown. This demographic has egos...

I don't think it's an assinine idea. I know Mr. Trump has residential projects in Las Vegas, Denver, Chicago, Toronto, and New Orleans (though that one might be on hold or cancelled) and of course NYC, his home base.

We already know Mr. Trump was interested in Detroit in the 80's and IMO certain areas of Detroit that would be the most likely neighborhoods for a Trump residential tower, have improved dramatically since then. Metro Detroit is a very affluent market with 5 million+ people, the question is would there be enough to fill 30-40 stories of exclusive condos? I certainly think there would be. If Mr. Trump did construct a residential tower in Detroit, the press he would recieve would be more than enough to fill it, he wouldn't even have to spend a dime on marketing the tower, it would be an earth shaking event for Detroit.

replying to mine_field..... once the media around the country knew DONALD TRUMP was setting-up-shop in Detroit,.... Detroit would no longer have the negative views that it has among the country, even though the Super Bowl changed much of that. We probably would get a little more attention---possibly even as far as retail (I COULD SEE ACTUAL STORES THAT YOU WOULD FIND IN SOMERSET MALL ON THE GROUND FLOOR OF HIS BUILDING/BUILDINGS). It would be kind of nice to wake up one day and go downtown and see them renovate the Monroe building so it can become a Macy's and a Nordstrom and ground floor retail (near the campus martius area) full of the COACH store, Express, Ambercrombie, Cinnabon (cinnobon bakery), etc... I shouldn't have to drive all the way out in fucking Novi to go to any of these shops when i can just drive down woodward and be right there.... if only I had the right connections with "the system". UGH!

I can understand writing Rock since they are considering a move downtown. But it's naive to think your random letter to Trump is going do any good

not trying to be a smart ass at all.. but i didn't say it was going to make an impact on him, i simply just meant that it wouldn't hurt to propose something to him. For example, when you were a little kid and you know that you have already had dessert and you know that you can't have anything else.... but you ask for something more just to see what your parent says....

..... sorry for the cheesy example...

What's the harm in sending him a letter? So it'll cost a first class stamp... big deal. Crazier things have happened right?

Donald Trum is a R. estate Genius . If he felt like Detroit was a good place to start a project, he would have by now. Although this city is changing for the good, it has a long way to go before it starts to attract big names like Donald Trump............Just My opinon

Exactly, that's why a few days ago on Larry King he mentioned Detroit and Philly as examples......he pursued wuth Philly b/c there is potential but never mentioned Detroit again b/c there is no potential anytime soon.

Anyone have the address of the Sultan of Brunei?

With all the gas guzzling cars that Detroit has produced maybe someone could convince that rich bastard that he owes us an expensive gift of some sort.
