UNBELIEVABLE....as much as I respect the director of DWSD, I don't see it necessary to grant a guaranteed salary. Also, seeing that 5% of the water departments employees are faced with layoff and to see that the mayor wants to give Mercado a raise...the timing is just f'ed up. Once again I am now questioning the Mayors action's.

The contracts that they are trying to approve more money for are contracts that should have been completed already. Why in the hell would Kwame be stupid enough to fall into these types of situations where the contractors seemingly are calling all of the shots. This clearly seems to be another way that Kwame will be extorting more money from the city through all of his contractor?friends.

We should not have to pay twice the money for half the work done. It's just plain stupid.

IF Mercado is good it is my guess the mayor and his HR staff make a decision to put money where they can to reward and retain top performers. My guess is (since you respect him) that it is much more difficult to fine a highly qualified water department manager than your typical employee. I have employees myself and always rewared my top performers with more money than the lesser performing employees.

If Kilpatrick could file his campaign finance reports on time, maybe we'd know part of how much Vic paid the kwamester for the job. Must be pay-back time.

You guys threw this all of track with Mercado. Let him have his 10 G's.

What is alarming is Kwames boy getting $8Mil in contracts. The guy is in jail for PISTOL WHIPPING somebody. Who even does that anymore? He'd be lucky to get a job at McD's after dong that.

Business as usual. 4 more years. 4 more years. 4 more years.

Don't let them do that to all ya'all boy!!!!!

Not so fast Kilpatrick...

Senate pushes to deny raise for water boss

The Michigan Senate on Thursday passed a resolution asking a federal judge to deny Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's request to increase the pay of Detroit Water and Sewerage Director Victor Mercado by $10,000, to $250,000; and to approve $12 million in change orders to water contracts. The Detroit News reported Monday that Kilpatrick sought judicial approval of the requests instead of sending them to the Detroit City Council. The resolution is sponsored by state Sen. Laura Toy, R-Livonia.

I don't get these no bid contracts: $8 mil. to the mayors friend and billions to Haliberton in no bid military contracts.

I am a small business person bidding on jobs with 2, 3, and 4 zeros. I have yet to get a 'No Bid' 6 zero contract. Any body know how I can get hooked up with such deals?
