How ironic this would come out just as the WDET fundraising drive gets ready to kick off. |

What's ironic is that he would be charged for doing something similar, yet more serious, than what he fired Martin Bandyke for. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20051207/ENT 03/512070302/1038 I hope he's fired as well, and quickly, he's messed up the station enough. |

While these are allegations even the sniff of scandal will be very damaging for the stations which will be entering their spring fund raising periods shortly. Should any of the allegations be proven true, it needs to be remembered that these are the actions of individuals, not the stations that we love and respect. We will need to rally behind the stations to recover from this sure-to-be setback. |

The manager of WDET represents the station and is part of what comprises the station. If the allegations are true, part of the radio station is corrupt, not just an individual. If the allegations are true, the station shouldn't ask anybody for money until the manager resigns or is fired, and gives back what was taken. |

Sorry but WDET is off of my radar as far as one of my favorite stations to listen to now. Ever since the change to the more news format in the afternoon, I really didn't have much use to listen to them anymore. I'm not saying it's a good or a bad thing- it's just not my thing anymore and I can't really offer any financial support for it. I use to support them when they offered the variety in the Detroit radio market but since they've become a little more homogenized, they lost me. Sure they still have great distinct music & voices like Ed Love, Liz Copeland and Chuck Horn but it hasn't been enough for me to loosen up my wallet in these tough times. |

Well, I can't say that I'm surprised. I mean, what can you expect: if you listen to that classical music stuff all day, day in, day out, something's bound to happen to your brain and warp whatever sense of morals your parents tried to instill in you. |

Detroit NPR radio played only classical music years ago, before 1980. Maybe Nealr remembers (was it WQRS?} as I do? What's changed? Sincerely. Ah: WQRS "profit-hungry corporations" -- corruption -- connection? (Message edited by Jimaz on March 16, 2006) |

Air America just now read another segment of George Orwell's 1984 on the Mike Malloy show. This segment dealt with the Ingsoc concept of "He who controls the past controls the future." It seemed appropriate to this thread at this time. |

I'm listening to the excellent Democracy Now! as I type this. Whatever happenes, we'll find out and in the meantime I'm hearing intelligent news talk instead of Tangerine Dream or whatever long turgid crap Judy Adams would be playing right now. viva new programming. |

Just ran across an old Big Boy radio guide from Spring/Summer 1996. It lists WQRS FM at 105.1 MHz under Classical-Fine Arts/Public. FWIW. |

WQRS was changed to WMGC back in the '90s. Dumped classical. WRCJ is classical. Lots of things are different. |

Now I read that Los Lobos cancelled their WDET promotion scheduled for May. I guess they'll go hang out with Martin Scabdyke that day instead. |

Jimaz, WDET changed to a jazz-centered format in 1983 after Marvin Granger came to town... Am fairly confident DET never played only classical music. Ernie D had a program as early as 1949. |

Any relation between the two people listed in the Freep article? "Michael Coleman, who left his job as deputy director for Michigan Public Media in July, faces a 5-year felony." University of Michigan, President Mary Sue Coleman. |
