Nice to see the local media check into dealings of other area politicans. While I think Detroit has more than its fair share of pols that waste money it is nice to see some dirt on those so willing to throw stones.

quote:

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson spent $5,735 from his war chest to have his portrait painted.

quote:

Patterson spent $16,724 on meals from Detroit to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

quote:

Patterson spent a good portion of the $210,000 he raised on gift certificates to places like the Capital Grille, the Lark restaurant in West Bloomfield, and the Capelli Spa in Bloomfield Hills; and gifts at the Goldner Walsh Nursery in Pontiac and Marshall Field's.

quote:

Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano: $7,582 for food in luxury suites at Comerica Park and Ford Field.

Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Anthony Marrocco: $5,026 to lease a car and buy tags and insurance, and $6,252 to throw Christmas parties.

Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith: $6,000 to his mother for rent, food and bookkeeping at his campaign office in her home.

Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca: $9,245 for meals, including 15 outings to the Capital Grille in Troy.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard: Nearly $10,000, including $1,400 in monthly dues, at the Heathers Club, a private country club in Bloomfield Hills.

I will say that LBP is spending money in the city. That's always nice to hear even if he is spending other peoples money. ($3,300 for an event at Pangborn).

I wonder if he is trying to give some cash to Pangborn to try to lure him to OC.

Inexcusible!

How do these guys constantly make the same dumb financial mistakes?

Don't they know TV stations and Newspapers love this stuff?

My only problem with the reports is that they do them at the wrong time. They need to do them right before elections so people remember exactly who they are voting for.

What I find interesting is that MC has a website that shows campaign funds info but OC which is very on the ball with IT forces you to go to the county building to request a copy.

He could have commissioned me to do it. For $5 I would have just painted a large penis. The likeness would be eerily similar.

I believe though he was spending campaign funds, not taxpayers funds but I could be wrong.

Add this in for LBP. Rough day for the man.

http://detroitnews.com/apps/pb cs.dll/article?AID=/20060308/M ETRO02/603080367/1009

Patterson defends use of staff work

He denies charges he broke campaign finance laws by using county resources to fight state's Single Business Tax.

And in usual LBP form. Don't address the issue, just attack someones character:

quote:

Responding to a complaint filed Friday with Michigan's Department of State by Oakland County Commissioner Dave Woodward, Patterson called it a "specious complaint" by a "lap dog" for the Democratic Party and said his staff has done all work for the petition drive on their own time. "It shouldn't surprise me that a tax-and-spend liberal like Woodward would file a complaint," Patterson said. " He's a paid mouthpiece for the Oakland County Democratic Party. He's paid to do this, to make complaints against Republican officials and Republican philosophy."

Campaign funds can be spent however they choose. These funds are not from John Q Taxpayer. Don't forget, many politicians become millionaires when they retire, as they get to keep the money left over in their campaign funds.......

It's the price you pay when you donate to a campaign. Unless you're the campaign manager or politician you really have no say as to how the money is spent after the check is written...

If that is, indeed, the portrait in question -- it's interesting to note that it seems LBP got a hefty discount. According to Rob's website (a little out dated since he moved almost a year ago), these are the portrait prices :

Oil (on canvas or board) Adult Child*
Head and Shoulders $6,500 $5,500
Half Figure and Hands 7,500 6,500
Three Quarter Figure 9,000 8,000
Full 11,000 9,500

Poor Maniscalco.

Patterson's spending choice says a little bit about his hubris.

1953 - i don't think it ever was.
obviously the portrait has some idealistic qualities.

LBP seems to be a tad vain, anyway -- did anyone see the Hour magazine where he was unhappy with a photo of him in the previous issue, so he sent a letter with a more becoming photo?

Who says he doesn't care about the arts?

Remember the flap he made about the art acquisition for Cobo? Maybe [hint, hint] if they hung his picture down there bye gones would be bye gones?

I am sure what he did was legal, but I wonder how those campaign donors feel about his vanity expenditures?

From an artist's perspective I think more red was needed in the nose.

It's a Pangborn. All you LBP haters must love seeing him sport a "Detroit" neck tie.
