I was over at citylivingdetroit.com and saw that this development finally had their website up. It looks like it will really fit will into the West Canfield neighborhood. Construction is suppose to be completed by this fall, with prices starting at arounf $190,000.

I live in that area.
The same people who are building those just bought the 1st house on canfield east of third on the south side. They have no parking so they can't develope the building into seperate units until they get some parking. They want to use the backyard, but the people who own the property behind them won't sell the access, so they came up with a plan to build a tunnel under the house to the backyard where people could park. The driveway would turn into a tunnel under the house...I have no idea how the historic commission could approve that one.......

Tunnel under the house? It would have to beach a foundation?! That sounds hard to believe.

I think most of the crime in the WSU area is coming from the projects just across Third from this development.
I'm all for the progress, but I'm not sure that area is ripe for this kind of development...I realize though that it's this kind of vision that can bring about change.
190k to plant my flag on that section of Third? I don't know.

This development is next to a crack building known for tons of crime. Many cars get stolen from the area more than just down the street. Ive made mention of the building numerous times even on the midtown crime thread. I think it will help the area But as you said the projects (or look like it) I think are the problem.

you are in a much better spot there, just a mere 2.5 blocks from the development above....your part of canfield is well traveled by civilians and law enforcement.

Be concerned only in that you are in a large amercian city, one that is generally more prone to crime than others.

Imperfectly - One of my biggest concerns for you is your proximity to Motor City Brewery. Before you know it the summer will be over and you find that you spent half your time there.

I grew up in the city and I do know what can happen. Plus my uncle is DPD (he thinks I'm nuts.) I have seen a lot of foot traffic thru that area. And I have no plans of wandering around at 2 am.
Thanks you !

No, not concerned. You shouldn't ingore the risks that are involved with living anywhere either though.

By the time your paint dries, that area will be one of the nicest in the city.

(Here are a couple more projects that will impact you: http://www.modeldmedia.com/dev elopmentnews/uccacatalyst.aspx http://www.willysoverlandlofts .com/)

3rd is a much rougher street, and it is about a half mile from where you are.

I live a couple blocks southwest of the lofts you are looking at.

similar to jt1, my biggest concern would be the amount of $ you might end up spending on donkey shows at agave.
