According to HotfudgeDetroit's archives, Hard Rock Cafe should be closing any day now. That's according to their "inside sources." LMAO |

The rumor is that Hard Rock is closing because it's doing too well. Compuware doesn't like the spillover tables taking such a large part of the atrium. According to the rumor. |

I hear they are closing because they have to spend so much money on the repairing plumbing damage caused by the alligators in the sewers. That and because so many of their staff were being killed by the gang that drives around with their lights off.... |

hard rock las vegas is run by hard rock hotels. the two corporations that run the restaurants are hard rock east and hard rock west. yes there are three hard rock co. no they are not franchised. no the hard rock hotel co. does not run the detroit store. no i don't know which of the two others run it. unless there is something serious going down with these two co. that they aren't telling people (employees, customers, stockholders, etc.) there isn't anything going down with this location. this is a ridiculous rumor, stop it! |

That's no joke, don't flash your lights at them, they will kill you! I got an email forwarded to me about it. Watch your drink at the bar as well, as people are drugging unsuspecting people and stealing their livers, leaving the people in a bath tub full of ice and a message to call 911. Also, make sure to pass on that microsoft email for beta testing or you won't get your check from them for $2,615.37. I know this one is true because somebody further down the email list had a friend that is a lawyer and said microsoft is paying out because it's cheaper than being sued. |

Guys, The gang initiation 'lights out' thing is real...at least in LA. Happened to me. I was waiting to turn left a few blocks from my apartment in North Hollywood back in 2001. The third car in a line coming at me had his lights out, so I casually flashed him. I usually remind people their lights are out or if they have their high-beams on. NO biggie. Guy turned in front of me...then quickly angled his car to block the road...jumped out screaming and running at me trying to start a fight...then tried in the same momentum to run across my hood. Luckily, there was no-one behind me, I was already backing up when he put his foot on my fender...I then shot forward between his car and one parked at the curb and barely got away without a scratch. Don't know what happened to him, don't care. He did leave a good dent on the fender, though, which I kept for a long time as a reminder of how lucky I was that night. He could've jumped out spraying bullets. He was all dressed in blue with a blue-painted low-rider. In LA, that means little else than gang colors...or a really unfortunate choice of wardrobe. |

Funny, I got an email this morning. Excerpts below: Dear Sir, I am BUNMI ADAMU, Manager of Hard Rock Cafe Lagos, in Lagos, Nigeria. I would like to interest you in a business proposition.... Hard Rock Cafe in Detroit recently closed. The manager of that location inadvertantly deposited the sum of $25 MILLION in HRC Lagos' bank account. The HRC home office is not aware of this deposit.... ...if you give me your bank account number, I will split the amount fifty-fifty. Do you think this is legit? But it gets better. Shortly after, I got an email from HRC saying there was suspicious activity on my account. I went to a special web site and confirmed my name, SS#, and mother's maiden name. I got an email saying everything checked out. Do you think this is legit, too? |

It's such a shame what happened to Hard Rock. I remember as a little boy my family dressing up in our sleeveless tees and dew rags and going downtown to the Hard Rock. Of course only the Hard Rock had the REAL Ted Nugent. Now that the Hard Rock is gone, all I have are memories. |

just called the hard rock cafe # and a guy picked up and said "how may i rock your world?".. i laughed a little bit and was like "yeah are you guys really closing?" and he said "oh my god, you're like the 2nd person that asked me that. We may be adding on to our establishment as of right now but as far as closing, thats just a big rumor." It sounded pretty loud in the background too. He said "why don't you come down here today and put in an application? We yould love to have you." I told him i already have a job near you guys (lied). Then he went on to say "I think I remember your voice.".....hmm...I don't think so buddy. |

I recieved a phone call today from ch 4 looking to do a story about my store closing, but the reporter said they were looking to widen the story to include the rumored closing of the Hard Rock. I though that was very interesting as I have been following this thread. I gave the reporter my take on things: 1. I spoke to someone from HRC corporate when the first opened and he said that they are known to close underpreforming stores, so they do close the ones that don't work out. 2. Detroit HRC is the only HRC in the world that NEVER has a line of folks lined up waiting outside for tables.......Not all have'm lined up daily, but on a friday or saturday night they are. 3. This is the only HRC that is not billed as a tourist attraction. At every HRC in the world people stand out front to get their pic taken with the HRC in the background...They also walk away with tons of the over priced so called collectable HRC merch. This store is based on events, they do see an upswing in business when there are sporting events, or large conventions at Cobe ect. 4. Their food sucks, and for a music based place you would expect to see more DETROIT music crap on the walls. We were making music in Detroit decades before that were serving shitty burgers worldwide. Now to be fair, I have gigged inside that venue a few times and they were always nice and took great care of us, as did the other HRC's that we have gigged at, but like any other corporate venture, their funds allow them to do what most of us wouldn't risk a dine to do. |

Lined up? Hard to tell because of the multitude of places people could be hanging out. But I've had hour-long waits on Friday/Saturday. For a restaurant that size, that's a successful night. |

Sorry bagman, you're wrong on that account. When they first opened up there were waits of over three hours to get a table. The interior waiting areas were so packed that people were, indeed, lined up outside. |

Matt, That lasted one week almost two, but a few days a year since ain't gonna pay the bills. Maybe I got carried away using NEVER, I did wait till those lines ended before I ventured in. It pains me to say that I do think if HRC was located in one of the sunburban hot spots it would see an increase in business, whether a better return on investment is another story, only they know what they pay do be and do what they do where they do it, I would bet large sums of money that their lease was a sweetheart deal in order to intice them to sign. They might even be doing the numbers expected, I doubt it, as I do think they were expecting more than they are getting |

I go to Hard Rock Cafe every now and then when I have a craving for TGI Friday or Applebee like experience. But honestly why would I go to Hard Rock regularly when I can go to The Woodward, Mosaic, Small Plates? I'm a person that eats out at least 5 times a week and love all of the choices available downtown. There are a lot of great restaurants downtown and competition is a great thing. Hard Rock definately needs to advertise more. They could do very well catering to that suburban mindset that loves the chain restaurant experience. |

I have always had to wait in line when I've tried to go to the Hard Rock with friends. More often than not we give up and go somewhere else. The Detroit HRC is one of the smallest, they underestimated the demand -- and thus there is rarely a spare table. It IS the destination of many suburbanites who are blissfully unaware that they aren't going there. |

I visited the Hard Rock Cafe once in Orlando and the one in Chicago many years ago and discovered that they're pretty much the same to a certain degree. Granted they do have different memorabilia on the walls but is it enough for me to go check it out? Not really but I did have to stop by the original one's store in London a few years ago and visited the vault they had in there. It's not exactly a desitination for me any more. I'm more inclined to check out more unique restaurants now. |

Somehow find myself collecting Pilsner Glasses from all the Hard Rock's. That is the only reason I head to them, food is average at best. |

"That wouldn't be the result of being a chain, would it?" I was hoping that since each HRC was in a supposedly unique locale (with each one comes with its own unique identity package & swag), I was hoping that each one would at least feature something regional food wise. I was disappointed. |

Reetz, I do the same thing! I only get ones from the places I have been. It's a good conversation starter. |

Wouldn't it be interesting if they judged their popularity on the line length of wannabee diners...and folks in Detroit just don't wait. Very seldom...very seldom...will I wait in any line for any dinner. I've left places when I've made reservations and they force me to wait. In places with more lemmings per thousand...or where waiting in line is the norm...then looking at the line length MIGHT be a measure of popularity. |

As far as waiting in line... Last year we visited the HRC in Niagra, Toronto and Buffalo. Granted Niagra and Buffalo are right across the falls from one another. On the canada side of the falls...no lines, On the Buffalo side...we were the only people in the restaurant.Toronto..empty and it was at lunchtime.. Also in Detroit, the waitstaff has become acclimated to the downtown Lunch crowd on a daily basis. They have a steady flow of customers coming in from the C ware building. I also heard that they were thinking of expanding as well. i hope this proves to be true...seeing how it is not that big a place. |

The HRC here in Cologne- does allright- though I have never seen a line there, even on Fridays or Weekends. What is more sad- many of the people going in and out are speaking english. (There is a good cafe with outside tables down two buildings which I frequent). Obviously these are Americans/British tourists (spottable because of tennisshoes/white socks and hip/fanny bags: igit!) They are in a foreign country with a good kitchen (if ones doesn´t like german food, check out the Turkish restuarants (largest minority) they are awesome! Lamb so good- its unbelievable.) and they go to HRC or worse MickeyD´s and eat. I can only sigh! Down with chain restaurants!!!! |

Yeah, great (copyrighted) photo 1953 - I want it removed for altering it and not crediting it to its original owner. |

"Obviously these are Americans/British tourists (spottable because of tennisshoes/white socks and hip/fanny bags" My parents said that when they were in Europe, people would approach them and ask if they were American, out of nowhere. They were told it was because of their white tennis shoes. I told my dad "no, it's probably because you were wearing your WMU sweatshirt, or your Pistons hat, and they didn't have the heart to tell you it was that easy" |

Boy, oh, boy..."Local 4" really knows how to get their ratings. Let's interview the former owner of one of the most lackluster businesses in the entire city, then dig in the dirt for a rumor about HRC. Yeah, that's real strong. Meanwhile, 'The Dinette Set' bluehairs will be able to say, "Oh, what a suprise! All these businesses are closing down after the Superbowl!" Well, you know what? Y'all can eat me. If Bagman was correct about anything, he was correct that there are true Detroiters out here who have a full realization of how things are in the city. Detroit has major problems and its' people often struggle, but it's worth living and investing here. Detroit is moving forward faster than at any point during my lifetime - the opportunity and growth are both astounding. Businesses will come and go - it's a fact. However, when local "news" organizations use the closing of undermanaged businesses and rumors as their story, they are only helping themselves. Let's hope that when this segment airs, it will present a balanced view from the standpoint of what is genuinely happening Downtown, and not simply look for a way to 'showcase' the daily struggles and failures of the people who live and die by these ventures. Let's hope the advertising spots are equally genuine. You want to talk about opportunity and growth? Just wait 'till that Riverwalk is completed. |
