I did a search and didn't find see anything about this.

As I understand it Jacoby's is in the process of being sold to someone involved with Small Plates. As it was explained to me "its a done deal." The plan is to radically change the menu (not German anymore) and to turn it into a jazz or blues place.

I'm guessing half of you view this as good or exciting news. Not me. The place has been a German restuarant for 100 years. I love the atmosphere in there. To me, this is very sad news.

Changing Jacoby's is a shame in my opinion. Lot's of history there and the place just won't be the same as something else.

I believe it is the oldest bar in Detroit. That said, based on my last few trips there, the current management didn't give a damn. Service was horrible and it looked like they hadn't cleaned the rest rooms in about 15 years.

thats terrible, their lunch items are great for the price.
I always found service to be friendly and engaging (bartender)

They shouldn't change it! They could just change the upstairs, but not the downstairs

if they take the avacado and 3 cheese sammy off the menu and stop having brunch, I'm revolting....

I can't believe the nerve to change that place, its a classic.

Jacoby's changed years ago when Ed Jacoby sold it. I think the current owner's parents got tired or running the place for their kid.

I totally agree, it would be a shame if they'd change the concept now, after so many decades. As a European I am always happy to find places that feel like home, and Jacoby's is one of them.

I thought Mac's on Third was Detroit's oldest bar.
