drove by yesterday and there is now a dumpster out back, the back patio fence is gone, and men were working inside.

anyone know if this is preliminary demo work or renovation? I've heard two conflicting stories about the place in the past...

1) conversion into collegey sports bar (girls watch your drinks!)
2) demo for WSU parking

It is being turned into 3rd Street Lounge since Detroit doesn’t have any lounges.

They are going to revamp it into two sections. The corner of third and forest will be turned into a dive bar with theatrical touch ups, they might start offering pizza half price one day a week. The other half has a short term and long term plan. The short term plan will be to use it as a improve section then longterm it will be a haberdash of used furniture and ice cream.

I hear to gut the place and design it back for that purpose might take 6 months. At that time they expect to paint the building loud colors and install cheap awnings.

Ah how I miss the good old days.

i miss third street- luckily the bronx is still nearby but it doesn't have karaoke, pizza, or wordster. i heard the sports bar rumor from someone that claims to be in the know but you never know what wsu might be up to.

WSU does need a true college bar on or near campus. I don't see that being Z's (although they seem to have a decent number of student parties), Circa or Northern Lights or the place in the basement of the Fischer.

People "in the know" also said Hard Rock Cafe will be closing down soon. Still LMAO about that one.

I had heard from some people behind me on the street that all businesses would close right after Super Bowl. I had to laugh at them. They were convinced it would happen.

while most of the place was pretty thrown together, the bar was at least pretty nice and original looking, as well as the tin ceiling in the bar room....I'd hope they'd keep that at the very least, if it is indeed a renovation.

I know that the Ghettoman, Danny, and the Street Prophets wouldn't drink there because it was Gayville.

I know the guy that bought it, he is a younger guy. Last time i talked to him he said it would be "interesting". Definately a college bar, probably like a Harry's on teusdays, maybe more loungy. Not as good as the old third street, but those guys managed to run that into the ground. At least it will be occupied. and should no doubt do well if he goes the college route, can't blame him.

an occasional queen walks in and now it's gayville? please.

why can't a couple of gay people go out to the corner bar w/o it being a joke? it's not like people were swordfighting in the men's room. i saw a group of redheads there once but am i going to refer to it as RedHeadVille? last time i checked, the majority of the people there were drunken college kids that looked pretty str8 to me- but you won't hear me call it MeatHeadVille.

(yes i am aware of the ghetto street prophet or whatever he calls himself, just annoyed right now.)

I saw some redheaded, meathead, grateful dead freaks doing meth right around there.

So I call it redheaded-meathhead-deadhead-m ethheadville.

It was gay owned, and they didn't run it into the ground. The place was always busy, or at least occupied. It was a lease/ownership issue. I hope they reopen somewhere else soon.

I miss cheap beer night.

Spaceboykelly: you said it yourself, it was always busy, it should have been able to stay open. It was mismanaged, their finances were f*cked.

And there was way too many meat-dead-red-dreadhead mofos up in there!
