I have never, ever been more impressed with Detroit than I am watching the pre-game show on ABC.

Wonderful shots all over town with Aretha and Motown playing in the background.

Regardless of how big a cynic you are, I don't see how anyone can help but be awed by the way we're being presented on national television.

i know. this is absolutely amazing.

ESPN's coverage is also very nice, not as flattering as ABC's.

Detroit is shining! I love it

And to all those who posted on the Detroit News' web surveys that our Super Bowl would be a disaster, a hearty fuck you.

ESPN is just doing a pre-game. ABC is the only network airing the game.

For those of you who don't watch Sports Center and ESPN religiously (like me), ESPN has been really REALLY nice to us all week long.

LOL @ itsJeff... and a hearty Amen.

What a nice weekend. I just wish I didn't have to work tomorrow. I would have loved to take in the game and the scene @ the DBC on Broadway, but need to do lesson plans for tomorrow. None of my fellow doctoral students up here wanted to do a SB party, either... my buddies opted to go watch *Capote* instead (see why I'm not a Tree Towner?)... and the boy of the moment is with a bunch of his boys belching and farting at some bar in the O.C., so I'm at home, blissfully alone, eating my barbecue and buffalo wings, getting nice and tipsy, and waiting to catch my Detroit Synergy friends in the halftime show with the Stones.

It was not a perfect weekend, y'all... but I think that February 2006 will be the start of something wonderful. Too many local yokels from both sides of 8 Mile had too great of a time... I loved feeling like I was @ Mardi Gras in my own hometown.

English, your A2 hate is really absolutely hysterical. It's just like anything else- you can find fault in anything if you look hard enough. Instead of enjoying yourself, you're stuck in "the grass is greener on the other side" mode and not bothering to enjoy your surroundings. If you hate it so much, don't live and go to school here. Period. Save us the grief of your endless bitching.

As for me tonight, I'll be writing a paper about "Who Sees God in Genesis" (gotta love profs who hand you inane paper topics...), eating Totino's pizza rolls and cheese salsa and drinking Faygo, while trying to pay attention to the game.

ESPN cut periodically to a guy reporting from the Steeler's hotel in an "undisclosed location" in Troy. I looked in the background and I thought I saw the building formerly known as NBD Bank's Troy Tower. Are the Steelers staying at Long Lake & Crooks?

Kilpatrick giving and then taking back the key to the city with Jimmy Kimmel on ABC was priceless. On to the final four!!!

I thought that Pittsburgh was staying at the Marriott in Pontiac. Was there a change?

channel 4 was also doing coverage of guy gordon standing outside where they were lining up to go inside ford field- a seahawk fan came up to him and screamed into the mike "GO HAWKS"- you can some of them are "happy" and it was 3 hrs before kickoff.

Aram--don't be silly. I don't hate A2, I just think it's overrated, and I'm not the only one.

Anyway, thanks for sharing! Enjoy your Super Bowl.

The Steelers were staying in Pontiac, until last night when they were moved to the "undisclosed location" to eliminate any distractions before the game. I was fortunate enough to be a volunteer last night at the undisclosed hotel, and, yes it is in Troy. Interestingly enough...the Steelers took up most of the hotel, but a large portion of the remaining rooms were booked by a Seattle tourgroup.

Itsjeff, thank you so much for calling attention to this Superbowl pre-game show. I might have missed it otherwise. Watching Stevie Wonder now.

Stevie Wonder ROCKED!
I heard the crowd of folks on the field had a rehearsal? They needed another.

Now that should have been the halftime show. Better planning, less people on stage, and a couple of relevent Detroit stars in addition to Stevie Wonder, you've got yourself a great halftime.

While I like the Rolling Stones quite a bit, I think we could do without them.

Did they drop an F-bomb in there? If they did...I can't imagine that will go over well with the FCC.

I never want to hear the National Anthem again unless Aretha Franklin is singing it. My God that was awesome.

Aaron Neville, however, brought little to the table. Dr. John looked downright bored and confused.

I didn't like Neville at all, but Aretha was amazing and saved the anthem.

I also saw Condi in the audience (in a suite I believe).

I'm just glad Aretha's jacket appeared to be synthetic. Would have taken an entire forest of tiny animals if it was real.

You should have seen Aretha on thurs night at The Fisher Bldg. She showed up at the black tie KRONK GYM fundraiser, wearing a full length white mink coat that made her look like a polar bear... I got the chance to talk with her and being 6'4 looking down at her, all you see is the shelf of huge BREAST. It kinda wiggles like jello as she talks and laughs. She is as big physically as she is nice. I mentioned I ran the family business and She was kind enough to acknowledge my late grandfather who outfitted all the Motown folks with luggage back in the day.

She was awesome in The Blues Brothers.....THINK!
