Livonia mayor: Online note paints city as racist He wants township clerk's remark referring to Wal-Mart controversy taken off Redford site. Joe Menard / The Detroit News http://www.detnews.com/apps/pb cs.dll/article?AID=/20060203/M ETRO/602030324/1003 |

If it is a quote, I don't think it should be removed. If it were in a mission's statement or something similar and held a permanent place on the website, it would be very unprofessional and should be taken down. But this looks like a quote from an interview and should not be censored. Apart from all of that, if Livonia wants to show itself a more accepting community than portrayed, then it needs to lead by example rather than hiding behind words, and a small group of citizens trying to fight that perception. The city can't have it both ways, they can't support actions of regional isolationism, and then get righteously angry when they are called on it by whomever it may be. |

Sounds to me like Redford Township playing the race card and flailing its arms with hope of catching Wal*Mart's eye. |

The only thing Redford is guilty of is pandering to open-minded folks, that and being childish and immature in its self promotion. That is, unless Livonia can sue for defamation and win in trial. lol |

quote:Why would anyone want to live in that dump is beyond me!
If this was posted by someone referencing Detroit, hell would be raised. why the double standard? different strokes for different folks. i've never understood how people from the city can defame people who choose to live in the suburbs, while simultaneously having thin skin about getting criticism thrown back at them. |

As someone who grew up in Livonia, I'm a little bewildered. How is it a dump? Nice, well-kept houses, solid neighborhoods, good schools, etc. Racially isolated I can agree with, but Hitlerland? Yes, there are some racists in Livonia - every city has them. Most of folks in Livonia, including my mom, were protesting WAL-MART and the 24-hour operation in a residential neighborhood. How would you like a 24-hour store opening up 300 feet from your back door? There's already a Wal-Mart less than a mile away IN LIVONIA (Middlebelt at I-96) which I shopped in once and never went because it was very disorganized and untidy. Sorry guys - to me, your comments on Livonia are just as ill-founded as comments made about Detroit. |
