Ingham County (Lansing) is going to get it's land bank this year, I believe. I really don't know how much of an impact these things will have, but it's much better than the current, disorganized system where slumlord after slumlord buys these properties at an auction. This is not to say that a city or county, itself will always be a better steward of vacant properties, though. I wonder if Wayne County/Detroit currently has the will and means to be a good neighbor, or at least a better neighbor than your average slumlord/speculator.
