Ohh.. How long has that been a site for a club.. Seems like quite a long time.. I Can't find any information on when the building was converted to a club..

This is the last club I thought would have a memories thread! I went once and actually it was my first big time clubbing experience when I was 18!I showed up like at 9:45 and was the first one in thinking I was all cool and stuff. I didn't care for the music. To much synthesizer, Q95.5, DJ Lisa Lisa trance BS.And the whole stage show things were a bit over what I ever want to see at a club. Nowadays I go to see the DJ's. If a DJ I like is playing at bleu I go see them there. If a DJ I like is playing at some shit hole scary place I go see them there. DOn't need all of the thrills and fills.

But ALOT of people enjoyed it and the building has quite the history.

You may get a better response about this topic at www.detroitclubscene.com they frequented it and one of the reasons I went as well. Here is the link to their picture gallery of Space among other clubs: http://www.detroitclubscene.co m/gallery/index.php?cat=12

It sounds like it is still essentially "Space" still, just renamed "The Zoo." Apparently you can get lap dances upstairs though, as they still have their cabriolet licence with the building.

Cabriolet, huh? Pretty funny malapropism for lap dances...does the top come off?

I was there as Backstreet - very fun...I think I did some naughty (or at least by the definition of Oral Roberts University) things there? Anyway fun place back then.

I didn't know there even was a Backstreet in Downtown Detroit. Backstreet in Atlanta was a great bar. Fantastic DJ's. Was 24x7x365.. now closed. So Sad. I wonder if they were modeled after one or the other?

I don't believe they were related at all to each other. Before Backstreet moved downtown, it was at the same location at Greenfield and Joy for a good 20 to 30 years. In fact, Backstreet is at that location right now.
