Okay - I haven't seen this discussed anywhere else and it's too darn juicy for me to keep to myself any longer.

One of the local strip clubs (Toy Chest - on Ford Rd. on the far west side) did a fundraiser a couple of weeks ago to support breast cancer research. They were going to give the money to the American Cancer Society. Only problem is that a couple of days before the event, the ACS said that they didn't want to money or any involvement from a strip club.

The event went on anyway. Eventually, they found a home for the cash at the Karmanos Cancer Center.

Anyway, I'd love to know what everyone else thinks about this.

Should the ACS have declined the strippers money?

I don't think they should of declined it but I'm super glad Karmanos accepted it.

Unless the ACS was worried that they'd have a bunch of soccer moms protesting outside their headquarters I can't see why they wouldn't have taken the clubs money. Stripping is legal and I think it's a really clever way to raise money for breast cancer. I really love the idea!

Nevada has turned down similar donations from its legal brothels. I say don't bite the nipple that feeds you. No doubt ACS said no, then picked up the phone to solicite donations from other businesses. Why not celebrate the features that we're trying to protect?

There may have been some strings attached, you know, a quid pro quo or tit for tat.

They should accept the money, grow up, and stop being such prudes! We already have a White House full of prudes!

ILD & Susanarosa:
I gotta agree with the two of you.

Interesting sidenote about protests from the soccer moms, the folks at Toy Chest didn't even promote the fundraiser outside of their club. This means that unless soccer moms start visiting titty bars, they wouldn't have even known about it.

Still, I'm very glad that the folks at Karmanos have a better head on their shoulders.

Just wished somebody would have notified us ahead of time. I'm sure a good number of us would have felt obligated to give to such a great cause.
