'Observant2art'__ you forgot about the, 'Moon Man Connection'.

Hilarious and entertaining.

some infamous characters on the Scene:

-Miss Energy(known for her earth shattering booty shak'n)

-Dias Dabney(known for his flamboyant P-funk costumes( Dias was said to be nefew of Marcus Dabney of Parliment-Funkadelic)

-Poppa'smurf(known for the dance,'the german smurf')

-Squirl(known for footwork in Jitterbugg'in)

-LaWanda(known for her long long long sexy legs)

-Disco Dave(the guy with no legs)

-Nat Morris(host the Scene)

-R.J. Walkins(host the New Dance show)talk to me quick!

good afterschool memories__funny how no one admitted to watching those shows.

The shows will definitely go down as a DETROIT CLASSIC.

'Nativegirl' ma' bad__ Fast Freddy was the king!
and also a great sales man at Northland Mall.

What was the guy name that did the modern dance style dancing___ I believe it was Lorenzo? He had a feminine disposition.

I admit there was a time when I desired to be a New Dance show dancer?(smile)

I just asked a person "in the know" if any tapes might be around. This is his reply.

(edited)
"The Scene" shows were live early on and
were not taped at all. Later, they were on 2" and re-used every week.
When Nat Morris and R.J. Watkins assumed control they saw to it that
U-Matic recordings were made, and R.J. and Nat kept those shows.

So, if anyone knows RJ or Nat, see if they might be willing to share them with us.

Let us not forget the Fred Merell Auction Movie.
That was always good for a few laughts.
An lets see how many hands for people who have seen the glider movie at least 100 times.
WGPR TV62 was a gem.
Trivia:
1. Who was the First News Anchor for Big City News?
2. What future anchor had their start at WGPR.

Remember on the scene they had the contests and gumby had won! You definetly cannot forget the people that were dancing behind the screen on the New Dance Show. If you notice some of the men on these shows had better hair styles than some of the women. I went to school with Tonya Rivers, she used to make me LAUGH when she had always done the RUNNING MAN in high heel shoes. LOL
By the way does Fast Freddy teach Ballroom dancing somewhere?

Superduperman what ever happened to RJ's show LATE NIGHT ENTERTAINMENT?!

Aldermandavis I remember Marvelous Marv from 107.5 used to say "THE NEXT 100, THE NEXT 200", from the Nightclubs that used to come on the radio from the DANCERY and it was another club in Highland park, but I cannot remember the name.

Since I used to work at the casino I have always ran into MARV and I used to mention those funny statements to him and how HE LOVED WOMEN WITH BURGUNDY HAIR!!! LOL

--Remember the 'Scene Circle'?__ selected dance couples would dance on a platform and the camera would shoot from platform to platform.(classic)

Later they went to the 'soul train line' set-up.

Hamilton Bohannon's, "Lets start the Dance" and Miss Energy's booty shak'n dance was classic.

'Observant2art' Yes I remember him? He was a regular. Can't remember his name though. He created the dance, 'gett'n paid'/ later called 'running man'__ also in his early appearences, he was known to be a pretty decent 'jitter-bug'(or)'bugger'

....if ya' did'nt get off, it's not ma' fault!

who know's?__ most old-school D'J's/emcees often and eloquently articulated assonantal and consonantal signifying styles. Similiar to what rappers do today. It was part of there character.

I can remember WGPR 107.5 radio entire line-up.

6am to 10am Rockin Reg Brown
10am to 3pm Marvelous Marv(yo' mid-day DJ)
3pm to 7pm Tiger Dan(yo' drive time DJ)
7pm to 10pm Futi/Nat Morris
10pm to 2pm The Electrifying Mojo(The MFA)

Usually after the Midnight Funk Association was off I would retire to bed(smile)

How come nobody mentioned my favorite, the sexiest woman ever born, Barbara, who seemed sort of quiet, didn't seem to have that many dance moves, but with a set of hips and legs like she had, she didn't need a lot of moves. Also, nobody has mentioned Ree-Ree, whe little tiny girl who got away with some scandalous outfits and moves. Anyone who has VHS of the NDS and would be willing to part with them or make copies for me, contact me at JMike92156@msn.com and I will pay any reasonable price.

Also, Brownie had a website a couple of years ago, but it seems to have dried up... I exchanged some e-mails with her, and despite her daring and shameless dancing and posing, I was struck by how gentle and down-to-earth she seemed. She mentioned that LaWanda is still in town, and is appearing as a singer in some local places. I don't know about all that, but what a pair of legs... Brownie told me that Bam was sort of shy and conservative, and that they used to try to get her to let loose a bit. It must have worked, because I distinctly recall Bam once appearing in a loose-fitting white dress, and I mean ONLY a loose-fitting white dress...
Ree-Ree was wild; when you're "only as big as a minute,' as the saying goes, you can get away with wearing some things that the bigger, bustier girls can't. I recall her demonstrating for R.J. a dance move which she called "Don't Touch My Butt," which was a funny name since, given her build and the way she dressed and moved, any normal guy wanted to touch her butt...
Again, though, ALL HAIL BARBARA!!

Pjazz, that probably was Brownie. Despite her warm, gentle nature, she wasn't shy about her body, as evidenced on her website VIPBadGirls, which I think has dried up. I'm glad to hear that she is still around these parts.
