A small plane made an emergency landing on Interstate 75 in Allen Park Monday afternoon, according to Allen Park police.

The plane landed in the southbound lanes of the freeway at Dix Road, Local 4 reported. Traffic was passing in only one lane, according to ClickOnDetroit.com partner Traffic.com. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

No injuries or damage to the freeway was reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been called to investigate the incident, Local 4 reported.

That's less than a mile from my house. We were doing some more decorating and my son said..."mom there are a bunch of helicopters flying around!". I didn't pay much attention till I got on the computer and saw the news. No one was hurt which is amazing! Glad I had the day off and wasn't coming home from work...would have been kind of freaky! Also glad it found the freeway and not my house or back yard!

BREAKING NEWS: That same plane has made a clean take-off and is on its way to I-96 for a second landing at around 7pm tonight live on your local channels

I've read stuff about parts of the Interstate system being designed to accomodate military planes in an emergency, but haven't seen authoritative proof of that.

A small plane landed on I-69 at Swartz Creek some years back.

They were interviewing the pilot on the news last night and after he told the story of how he basically had the "thread the needle" to land in between cars (causing NO accidents, by the way), a woman pulled up beside the plane and flipped him the bird!! Don't you just LOVE people!
