Yep, it looks like the Ilitch folks are "Statler'izing" their buildings. Like puttin' perfume on a pig! It's funny though.... looks like they were dragging their feet waiting until the last minute to do this. |

I wonder if the Ilitch's were worried about.... With all the millionaires/billionaires visiting from out of town for the Superbowl, the Ilitch's would be hard pressed to show off their entertainment "jewels".... only to have them surrounded by their slumlord holdings as well. Kinda makes it hard to for the Ilitch's to show off their entertainment empire without cleaning up their nearby empty buildings. |

On the positive side, I guess that means that the Adams is not getting demoed. |

Barnesfoto, I don't think that the Fine Arts Building (the lobby portion of the Adams Theatre) is in danger of being demo'ed. But the auditorium portion of the theatre certainly is in danger. The Fine Arts Building predates the theatre by at least a decade or two. When the theatre was built in 1917, they "lobbied thru" the existing building, and added an auditorium across the back alley of the Fine Arts Building. Like the late Madison Theatre (also 1917), the Adams Theatre has very little lobby space. (Message edited by gistok on December 13, 2005) |

Isn't the Fine Arts Building extremely water-damaged inside? I'd heard it was pretty far gone, from a conversation between a developer who'd walked the building and an architect familiar with the area. |

Yep -- it got a brand spanking new plywood facade, complete with a plywood door. Look for them to paint it a dark green w/in the week. In other development news, the old parking ramp next to DTE Energy has been demoed and the two story building next to the Statler is being demo'd. Lot's happening on the West side... |
