We desperately need to bring manufacturing back to our shores. And, I get the feeling that most of the Wall Street bankers will flee the country, if we have to deal with China in a military showdown.
quote:WASHINGTON, March 26 (UPI) -- China is expanding its military capabilities at high speed, and no one knows what they are going to do with them, a new Pentagon report warned. The U.S. Department of Defense issued the report, "Military Power of the People's Republic of China," Wednesday. It said that China's "armed forces continue to develop and field disruptive military technologies," with nuclear, space and cyber warfare all mentioned. The Pentagon said such developments were upsetting the military balance in Asia. The report added, "Much uncertainty surrounds China's future course, particularly regarding how its expanding military power might be used." China took exception and told the United States to "drop the Cold War thinking." China holds more U.S. treasury bonds than any other country -- $681 billion in November. But the Chinese are worried that the unprecedented spending plans of President Barack Obama and the Democrats who now control both houses of Congress will cause serious inflation and drastically reduce the value of their dollar holdings. If China dumps all or most of its dollars, Japan, the second-largest holder of U.S. treasury bonds, will follow suit, and the United States could find itself bankrupt overnight with a nightmare hyperinflation comparable to that of Zimbabwe today or of Weimar Germany in 1923. Gearing up to collect, better acquire a taste for rice. Isn't a "global economy" wonderful? Such idiots to allow this. Any 9 year old with a calculator could have predicted it better. Now they are telling us what to do. Does anyone realize what is happening? |

This has been a thirty year slide into economic oblivion. A rational person can hardly be faulted for any conspiracy theories now. But the past eight years have have been the worst. |

there is always the spectre of China's steel industry causing trouble for our military: "If we continue to lose our manufacturing base due to market-distorting foreign competition or U.S. economic policies that are hostile to domestic investment and U.S.-based manufacturing, it could become impossible to produce here," say the groups in a 28-page study. "The U.S. military would lose its principal source of strategic metals and we as a nation would become dangerously dependent upon unreliable foreign sources of supply." from Manufacturing & Technology News Jan 23, 2007 http://www.ssina.com/news/rele ases/pdf_releases/steel_and_na tional_defense_0107.pdf. |

Bottom line, they look after what is in the best interest, and we need to do the same. In our case, our best interest is liberty and capitalism. |

21st century China is Nixon's revenge on America. Yet the US has successfully embargoed tiny Communist Cuba for over 40 years. The US should have imported their cigars and sugar cane, and embargoed China instead. We are very likely inextricably tied to them now, and they have US by the balls. Can't fund the economy or our WOT w/o them. |

Look at what American companies are getting in these deals. Does anyone believe that deals are made just out of spite to America? Of course not, the deal are more competitive...that is where efforts need to be expended. |

Quote: "Don't rage againt China." The Chinese government has been manipulating their currency. They own half of every company there. You're right about the scumbags in this country pushing these trade deals for personal gain, but it was only possible with an equally malicious Chinese government. They over-harvested this country and now we'll all pay the price for it. Should have never been allowed to happen. |

Maybe because of the growing military imbalance in Asia, Korea and Japan should step up to the plate and use more of their GDP on military spending. Our Congress should clear the way for Japan to amend their constitution for this fact. "We have never actually been to war, and there are many things that we want to learn from the U.S. soldiers," Sawai said after addressing his troops and several hundred U.S. National Guard soldiers who came to his base from Kentucky for the 11-day maneuvers. It was a striking contrast: Many of the American guardsmen have been sent to war zones two or three times, while no Japanese soldier has fired a bullet in combat since Tokyo's 1945 surrender ended World War II _ thanks largely to a pacifist constitution written by U.S. occupiers to keep Japan from rearming. Constitutional restrictions have barred the military from acquiring an aircraft carrier or some air-to-air refueling capabilities needed for long-range strikes, which are crucial for the projection of force but are considered too aggressive to meet the constitutional defense-only rules. Unlike China's double-digit defense spending growth, Japan's has remained flat for years. China has for years outspent Japan _ $70 billion to $49 billion in 2009." We can't afford to be their bodyguard anymore. |
