http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pa ges/swift/bursts/gammaray_fire works.html

For the past month and a half this thing in our own galaxy has been firing away at us. Be sure to check out the "view movie" listed on the right column below the pic of the SGR. If you feel compelled research Magnetars or Soft Gamma Repeaters, this thing is wild and scary!

Check out what it did to our magnetosphere a month ago...

We would all be toast if we weren't protected by our good friend Magnetoman. So, they say this is only the 6th known SGR, and it is actually in our own neighborhood (celestially speaking) and it seems we are in it's line of fire. Let's hope it doesn't go hypernova!

I pay attention to what is going on around us and this is highly unusual. Our Sun has been extremely quiet, oddly enough at a time when a couple years ago astronomers were saying it would be springing back into a new solar cycle by now. We are getting hit by enough power right now, can you imagine if you added in an active solar cycle? Well, I suppose we should be counting our lucky stars that old Sol is sleeping.

I've been sitting on this info for over a month, wasn't sure if any of you would be interested. I think it's far out!

Again, way beyond our ability to fully grasp, and certainly beyond our ability to influence in any way....kind of like climate, a good lesson to be learned here.

Thank you Qweek for sharing this!

Curious...as with ANY system, I am eager to see how the advent of this energy input affects us.

The Mayan calendar/clock IS ticking.

If the Mayans were so great then why did they get wiped out?
Sorry folks the world will end but not for a 200 million years plus when the sun expands burns earth to a crisp only to cool fizz out leaving earth resembling a cold marble.

How do you know they merely didn't go somewhere else?!

I am SO glad you know exactly how things wrap up.
