Why would it be interesting if they did?

I have been a dog owner only during my life, until after I got married, and my wife wanted to adopt a kitten as a pet, which I reluctantly agreed to. Instead of just one, she came home with three, which pissed me off at first, but now I have grown quite attached to them. RIP Socks, I know that I will miss our cats when they pass away (they are each 8 years old now), one of whom is also a tuxedo cat like Socks was.

Did Socks recently die? I know they got rid of the cat as soon as they left the White House. Their dog Buddy was hit by a car and killed not long after Clinton's 2nd term was over. It really bothers me that they get pets when they move into the White House. If they like animals, why didn't they have one already? I am not fooled by this.

My guess is Bill liked them but Socks and Buddy learned real quick to stay away from Hillary.

^^ That's a generalization quickly becoming less true. The number of cat owners and cats owned is increasing while the reverse is happening for dogs. Households with both canine and feline members are increasing very qucikly.

Cats are easy but give nothing in return. Dogs takes a lot of work and are more rewarding. What might this say about the character of those that choose each?

I don't even like cats, but I know this is BS. I have seen cats owned by friends and family who are affectionate and like to be around people.

Not affection...hunger, or amusement that appears like affection as evidenced by the fact that they lavish this fake affection on indiscriminate objects and creatures randomly.

RIP Socks. Our cat is almost 16, intelligent, affectionate, moody, a touch deaf, but still a delight. She's really mellowed in her old age.

Nothing could be further from the truth, felines do indeed show affection, for just a few examples, each of my cats will squint their eyes at me after one or another jumps on my lap in our living room, or if I look at them when they are laying on top of their cat stand, and our tuxedo cat in particular will use his front paw to grab my shirtsleeve if I pass by without stopping.
The declawed female tortoiseshell will also use her front paws in a kneading movement on my chest if I am laying on our couch watching TV, after jumping (oof!) on my stomach, these actions are unmistakeable as a show of affection, IMO.

"Many people"...they're probably in "produce or perish academia". Just using the same logic you employed on the Left Handed thread.

It says that Ccbatson needs attention that the more aloof feline does not provide. Others, more secure in themselves, prefer the mutual respect of the cat.

JL, I don't entirely disagree, I am not satisfied with what is available from a feline pet, and I speak from experience/having made attempts.

Those who are insecure worry about it. Those who are not, do not.

An erroneous (and rule breaking) personal comment about the self esteem of someone who is not lacking in that department will not bother the target in the least. It would bother me no more than someone claiming that I was a liberal.
