I thought it might be nice to get some input from those of you who listen to radio on the internet regularly. Now that I can get high-speed at home, and have internet at work, I can listen to Detroit Today at work, Ed Love in the evenings, etc. I will try to get into the habit of listening to WDET2 also to try out the new music programming there. But there are also some other stations I like to listen to, either directly from their feed or certain shows in podcast form. My two favorites are KFAI, the music-content NPR station in Minneapolis/St. Paul, and WFMU in New Jersey. WFMU has a fantastic program of 70s west african funk and such, another one for old calypso, old, rare soul/R&B sides, and a weird-eclectic show that I just started listening to. The NPR station out of Santa Monica (I can't remember the call letters) has some good music programming, too. I'd be interested to hear of more that may yield some fun new discoveries. O. |

Good question. I used to listen to a station on http://www.shoutcast.com/ that isn't there anymore. It had a nice window where you could see what song was next. It plays best in Winamp. http://www.radionetherlands.nl / is fun. I like the music on Radio France International but their website says they'll be on strike tomorrow! LOL |

I like Downtown Soulville on WFMU. I guess Indie 103 out of LA is going internet only. I always liked Steve Jones show Jonesy's Jukebox. |

Otter, thanks for starting this thread. If nothing else, it got me to check back with Radio France Internationale. It's a mystery to me why I enjoy their music so much. It just seems more cutting-edge than what we get here. (And Detroit is no slouch in radio variety.) |

http://www.radioparadise.com/ has got a great eclectic mix and I couldn't be happier but that's only if I'm anchored to the computer all day long. I'd still prefer my "radio" stations to be able to follow me from home to my car to work. |

http://www.wfuv.org/ WFUV - public radio out of Fordham University in NYC. Great eclectic stuff. In the car, for one more month, Little Steven's Underground Garage on Sirius Radio. I love it, but when my free six months is over, Little Steven is over for me. |

I like the radio portion of www.bbc.co.uk . It has all the variety you need, from classical to Motown, and no commercials. Also, lots of charming and sometimes confusing accents. Otter, the NPR station in Santa Monica, CA is KCRW at www.kcrw.com. I'm in L.A., so it's local -- one of the stations I have programmed on my car radio. |

Bats, I was talking about _music_ Please don't be such a tool. If you've got something contructive to say, offer it. Otherwise, there is some other thread you can spam. Others, please try to just ignore. Dfd, You're right, that's not what I had in mind, but thanks anyway - I think I'll check it out I listen to police dispatch radio in Chicago sometimes at work and it can be quite interesting. Thanks all (except Bats) for your suggestions. Of the webcasted shows that I do listen to, my favorites are: Ed Love! (OK, this is just our own station, but I'm in Chicago and it is webcasted) On a weekday evening, nothing beats lying on the sofa reading and listening to Ed Love. The HIstory of jazz included. Radio Freetown, WFMU Downtown Soulville, WFMU Muriel's Treasure (WFMU) Are there any Motownish shows out there? I was listening to one of KFAI's shows on Thursday and they were playing a lot of Motown, but it was a last-Thursday-of-the-month thing. O. |

"internet radio, stations, or shows". Where does that imply limitations to music content only? Otter, I do not and will not recognize you, or anyone else, as the authority of whether or not what I (or anyone else) has to say is constructive or not. Similarly, I, and everyone else, will not, and should not, consider you an authority of what should, or should not, be ignored. Whoever you think you are with these demands you assert...you are nothing of the sort. A person with delusions of grandeur is what you are, in case you were wondering. |

It's not internet, but satellite dish service offers Sirius radio with 2 classical stations that display the music's title and artist on screen. There is a serious "symphony hall" and a more warhorse pop classical as well. I've encountered several works which intrigued me and opened new doors. And, it sounds perfect when fed into your home theater receiver. |

Ann Delisi's new show on WDET Essential Music started off great. I'll be back next weekend too. Great fun stuff. And isn't listening to the radio supposed to be educational, fun & entertaining? Sorry but I just can't stomach some of those hate filled shows and turn away quickly. They neither validate an opposing viewpoint to me nor do they educate me as to their positions. |

Just because someone mentions green, they're suddenly left leaning now? Tom and Ray Magliozzi field phone calls, offers up advice on cars and provides a little bit of entertainment and you suddenly decry them as left leaning for mentioning green? |

I LOVE streaming radio and Podcasts. Up until recently I was able to listen to my ipod w/ headphones @ my midnight deadend factory job, until they came up with an arbitrary rule of "No radio /No headphones". I am looking for other employment now. Anywhooo. Check out this link..it is a database of public radio stations, and what they are playing "right now" searchable by "news and talk" and "music programming" its a great way to find some really cool programs on Public Radio stations throughout the world..Try it..You'll like it. http://www.publicradiofan.com/ |

Django, I'm curious what a Canadian version of TAL would be like I occasionally hear some of The Vinyl Cafe, which strikes me as somewhat like a Canadian version of A Prairie Home Companion. All the Canadian shows I've heard on the radio (Definitely Not The Opera is the next that comes to mind) have this sensibility that strikes me very quickly as quite canadian, even if you tune out the accents. Speaking of Garrison Keillor...He was a speaker at our Townhall series here in Port Huron. I was the limo driver who picked him up from the airport ( He flew in on a chartered Netjet) VERY nice Guy ! The Charter pilots ground transportation never showed up..so GK had me wait for them, then transported all three to the hotel (different Hotels)/ Garrison tipped me 50 bucks for about a 15 minute ride. Most speakers never tipped anything. He was extremely nice and accommodating to the fans who gathered near the limo to meet Him after the speaking engagement, as well..taking the time to speak to each one of them, signing books and taking fun pictures as well. No "Big Star" attitude at all. Refreshing. |

He seems to be a nice person. That doesn't excuse misguided ideology, but it doesn't hurt in general either. Same can be said of Obama. |
