The place, which has been located near the corner of Cadieux and Harper since the late 50s, was closed when I drove past it yesterday. It also had multiple FOR SALE signs on it.

What time did you drive by? I was there a couple weeks ago and it was as open as can be. This was around 1pm.

Wasn't at Cadieux and Harper, it was by the intersection of Harper and where Hayes and Chalmers came together if I remember correctly. Really doesn't matter, but thought I'd make the correction.

FWIW, they do have another location on Kelly in Harper Woods.

quote:

it was by the intersection of Harper and where Hayes and Chalmers came together if I remember correctly.

The only restaurants on Hayes/Chalmers and Harper are White Castle, Little Caesars, KFC, and a Coney Island.

Oh man the memories....... or lack of memories after the bars. They'll rebound. It just takes the right person to run a place like that, and perhaps the owners did not want to do it anymore.

I drove by there about 1pm and saw a Remax "for sale" sign out front. However, the place was packed. There didn't appear to be an empty seat at the counter.

Then what was the name of the diner I'm thinking of over by Hayes/Chalmers on Harper? I thought for sure that was Geneva's. Sorry. Long skinny building with a counter and I think a few small tables along the window. Lady that worked behind the counter back in the 60's had a huge lump on her forehead.

GL: The lady you are talking about worked at Geneva's. Can't recall that restaurant name on Harper but there was another one with the same name on Jefferson near the foot of the Belle Isle bridge.

I'll do another drive-by this afternoon. I drove past there around 8 the other night, so it should have been open. I'll report back and apologize if I jumped the gun too soon on its closing.

Near Jefferson and Harding is another Elmo's. The sign has been blown out forever, unless they recenlty replaced it.

Geneva's may be closed, but their burgers will always be with me...... literally.

I drove past Geneva's around 6:30 tonight. This time there was at least one small light on in the place, but otherwise it was dark and empty.

I can't remember what the card themed name of the place was before it became Louie's but I do remember being in there and noticing that the lavatory was called the "Royal Flush".

I ate at Elmo's back in the 70's...maybe even into he 80's. Chalmers & Harper, where Hayes starts (or ends, depending how you look at it).

I drove by Geneva's late last night as I was dropping off a buddy that lives near there. There was an "Available" sign out front. My buddy said they are still open during the day while trying to sell the place.

Yup,Whittier,Full House was it.Thanks for the memory jog.Quite a name for a place that sat about 12 people, max. It would have been late 70s/early 80's.I worked at the Buick dealer cater corner from there. We moved into the building on Thanksgiving weekend 1977 so it was after that. And it was closed for a while before it became Louie's.

The new owners at Geneva's changed the hours. I think the days of sitting there at 3 a.m. chowing down with all the I-Rock drunks are over.
I heard they got robbed 8 times in one month, so if that's true, I can't blame them for sticking to daytime hours. Sad though.

Elam's used to be The Green Oaks Bar. Next to the bar was Embo's Meat Market. On that same block was Dan Fleming Pharmacy, The Wayside Pantry, and a dance studio.
